CES 2011 is just around the corner which means a whole slew of new devices and technologies are sure to get announced. While we’ve had some speculation over what will be announced, new rumors and reports are surfacing left and right. The latest of such rumors to surface is one surrounding the popular VoIP service Skype.

Skype has been an immensely popular voice and video chatting service for desktop platforms but has made its way to mobile platforms like iOS and Android as well. However, one thing that the mobile application does not feature is the ability to make video conference calls – a highly sought after featured offering by competitors like fring.

However, Skype has begun sending out invites to an event they will be holding during CES 2011. What exactly with the VoIP giant be announcing, you ask? Well, our best best (and half the Internet’s) is that they will finally be taking the wraps off of their mobile video calling service.

Unfortunately, until that is made official, that remains nothing more than speculation.

kindle3 black small Speck also puts out a Folio case for the Kindle 3We have seen Speck put out a lot cool things like the Holdster and iPhone cases. Then there is that leatherette case for the iPad that we just covered earlier.

This is the DustJacket for the Kindle version 3, and its reading stand is able to retract into the front cover, closing over the front like a book jacket. Like the iPad cover, it has a micro fleece lined interior, and then has a quick-release locking tab.

You should be able to get it in Black or Red for $34.95.

While tablets are quite popular eBook readers have their own successful niche. While eBook readers of yesteryear featured solely e-ink displays, newer devices like the iPad and Nook Color have proven themselves to be very popular. The Nook Color, in particular, is quite a highly sought after device seeing how it is essentially a full fledged Android tablet for just $250. Add to that the fact that a quick root literally makes it a tablet and Barnes & Noble may have a winner on their hands.

In fact, it seems that they have such a winner that they are bumping up production to 18,000 units per day. With the holiday season upon us and the holidays themselves just around the corner, this should come as no surprise. What better way to get down on the Android craze than a nice looking, reasonably priced Nook Color?

androidgingerbread1 Update: Android ‘Gingerbread’ 2.3 Does Not Require 1GHz Processor, Droid Owners Rest Easy

Remember yesterday when we told you that the latest version of Android, version 2.3 otherwise known as Gingerbread, required a 1GHz processor? The news came to us from LG who announced via Facebook that the Optimus S wouldn’t be getting the upgrade due to the fact that it does not feature a 1GHz processor.

Well, lucky for us, it seems that the folks o0ver at LG were misinformed as Android team member Dan Morrill has come forth to speak of the matter. According to Morrill, there is absolutely no minimum processor requirement for the latest version of Android. Below is his Tweet if you need a bit of reassurance:

“Random note: there’s no hard minimum processor requirement for Gingerbread. Trust me, if there were I’d know.”

So, for those of you with an underpowered device that thought they would be left out, you can now rest easy. However, it begs the question as to what version of Android will actually require a minimum processor clock. Our best guess would point to Android 3.0 as from what we’ve seen it looks quite hardware intensive.

We’ll keep you posted.
