electroHUB 4 610x346 280x158 ElectroHub to debut at CES 2011I have seen wireless chargers before, such as the Powermat, Wildcharger, and the Energizer Inductive Charger.

The ElectroHub could change the game as it claims that it works with “virtually all electronic devices”. Apparently, you need ElectoHub batteries, that come in standard sizes like AA and AAA. You can also get a protective case working as a converter to charge a devices internal battery.

The ElectroHub will be on display at CES 2011 this year, and then be available in the first quarter of next year for about $39. That is pretty cheap compared to the competition.

Civilization Wars isn’t a perfect Real Time Strategy (RTS) game but at such a low price point, it’s still worth a look.

CivWars399x2667 300x200 Civilization Wars ReviewFollowing the typical theme of any civilization based RTS title, domination is the name of the game here. Build up your empire, acquire more people, then attack opposing forces all in order to claim new ground. We’ve all seen it before but it’s a fun activity to partake in. Civilization Wars offers three different races to play as each with their own artwork.

Besides just fighting physically, crystals can also be captured which provides you with energy that can then be used to cast spells. There’s also a basic levelling up system whereby experience points can be gained by defeating foes, then used to improve your abilities, firepower and resources.

It’s all quite typical RTS action and for the most part, it’s fine. Selecting things is not always as accurate as you’d like and the ability to zoom in would have been handy, but it’s still all pretty functional. The problem is I never found it overly absorbing. It’s just not as compelling as the likes of Civilization Revolutions for example. It all feels a little too characterless and not as detailed as it likes to think it is.

It’s unfortunate that this is the case as there’s a fair amount of potential here. You can unlock modes for example to change the game a bit such as introducing a no magic mode or doubling the difficulty level. There are even boss battles to contend with against lumbering monsters. There’s also the slightly curious addition of walkthroughs available through the app for every section of the game. No bad thing at all considering you’re not forced to use them if you don’t want to.

For the price, Civilization Wars does offer a lot and the action is fast paced and appropriate. It’s just a pity that it never gave me that compelling urge to keep on playing. Still, for 99c you could do a lot worse indeed.

There are plenty of people out there that like sushi, but nobody likes sushi as much as Sushi Boy. The Barrios brothers +1, making up the development team wefiends, have created the happiest, most exciting casual game this side of Tomena Sanner.

IMG 0674 300x200 Sushi Boy ReviewSushi Boy is a simple game that has you running around the screen collecting sushi from the sky while avoiding awful things like poop and shoes. This isn’t just a labor of love though, as you lose life when sushi hits the ground. As you progress through the game you reach bonus rounds that have you blasting off into a super happy coin collecting stages. The coins can then be used once you die on all sorts of goodies, like new head types, new level backgrounds, and best of all, pets.

Pets, in Sushi Boy, are the best way to get far in the game. As the sushi rains down faster and faster, there is no possible way to collect it all on your own. To compensate for your lack of speed, you can buy pets that move around independently to cover more ground. The pets go from lazy dogs, to mediocre frogs, to the super expensive robot that almost works better than you do. Other than coin collecting help, pets really don’t change the game at all, but they do wonders for the games replayability.

In the end, Sushi Boy isn’t quite as epic as some of the best high score games, like Canabalt and Ninjump, but it does have a sort of style that isn’t found in many other games in the App Store. Fans of the genre will get a kick out of shooting for the global high scores while gamers of all ages will appreciate the sheer happiness of the zany gameplay.
