Ghostwriter1 200x300 Ghostwriter Review Ghostwriter is a simple photo editing app that lets you add certain ’spooky’ effects to the photos you’ve taken of your friends and family, and lets you share them. It’s not meant to be the world’s most powerful photo editing app, but it offers a variety of spooky Halloween-flavored effects which will definitely amuse kids. It is a good option for a limited budget to share in the fun of making your costumed photos just a bit creepier.

What you’ll first want to do is actually go into the settings. You’ll have to select how you want to edit your photo before you even import it. This is one of the few problems I had with the functionality of this app. Most, if not all, photo editing apps let you import your source, and then allow users to edit the effects from there. Nevertheless, you’ll want to choose your Spooky Editing options from within the settings before you import or take your photo.

There are a small selection of options to choose from. Ghostwriter4 199x300 Ghostwriter ReviewFirst and probably most popular will be adding text – there are six preset messages, such as “Trick or Treat,” “I Want Candy,” “Something Wicked This Way Comes” and more. However, do you have the option to add your own message as well. From here you can select one of the two fonts available. After you’ve chosen the text, go ahead and choose if you want some ‘Goulish Miasma,’ or other effects like ‘Diabolical Light.’

Finally, a few other options let you decide if the picture will display with a sound effect, if you want to save the originals (for when you take a photo from within the app), or reset all your options. Once you’ve make your selections, go back out to the main page, import your photo, and see your creation! You can play the sound effects over and over, if you like. You can edit the text at this point if you’re not happy with what it says (but not the font or effects). Finally, go ahead and either save your spooky creation or email it to a friend.

That’s Ghostwriter in a nutshell, a simple holiday app for Halloween – pick it up if you’re interested in a simple, easy way to make spooky theme pictures for your Halloween memories!

Drop in screen can fight glare? http://androidiphoneapps.com/2010/10/04/drop-in-screen-can-fight-glare.html http://androidiphoneapps.com/2010/10/04/drop-in-screen-can-fight-glare.html#comments Tue, 05 Oct 2010 01:12:42 +0000 simonivan http://androidiphoneapps.com/2010/10/04/drop-in-screen-can-fight-glare.html

pixelqi1 thumb 550xauto 48680 279x162 Drop in screen can fight glare? As a certain ad for the Kindle states, most mobile devices have a serious glare problem.

Pixel Qi hybrid screen wants to solve this problem with a drop in screen that combines both the best of LCD and E-ink displays. They have a 10.1 inch version to show these two operating modes: full power backlit mode and low power e-reader mode.

It costs a lot at about $275 a pop, though.

voiceover utility icon thumb 550xauto 48351 279x279 How the iPhone helps the blindIt seems like it was just yesterday that we were reporting on the iPortal, an App to help those in a wheelchair. Actually, it was yesterday, and there has been other apps for the handicapped we have covered, such as the LookTel Mobile Software.

An iPhone user named Austin Seraphin is blind, and he is aided by apps like VoiceOver and Color Identifier. He even goes so far as to say that the iPhone is “the greatest thing to happen to the blind”.

Yes, that is high praise, but he still has trouble using iTunes. Long story short, the iPhone is more than slightly cool for helping the blind, and I believe it will get better.

social media twitter lists Sobees Social Media Manages Both Facebook and Twitter on iPadBetween Twitter’s one hundred and ninety million users and Facebook’s five hundred million users, it is safe to assume that you may know a person or two that is a member of either service.  Who knows, maybe even you might be a member of either one or both of the extremely popular social networking hubs.  Odds are, if you have accounts through both sites, you spend time monitoring both feeds intently.  The problem is that with two completely different websites and their respective iOS applications, it can make for an inconvenient process switching between the two.

Sobees is a developer that already has a PC application which currently integrates Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and LinkedIn into a series of conveniently laid out feeds.  Originally channeling their expertise into an iPad Facebook Client, Sobees Lite (which 148apps originally profiled back in May), they have since set their sights on bringing the world of Facebook and Twitter together into one convenient app.  As unfathomable as it is for me to imagine, thre hasn’t yet been an app available for the device that combines the functionality of both services into a single app.  At least that was the case until Sobees Social Media hit the App Store late last week.

social media facts Sobees Social Media Manages Both Facebook and Twitter on iPadAs I have come to find on numerous occasions, while rotating through social messaging clients, not all applications are created equally.  So what are the key features of the application?

  • View Twitter and Facebook feeds
  • Read comments posted on Facebook
  • Comment and like Facebook items
  • Reply/DM/Retweet/Quote/Favorite a Tweet
  • Manage Twitter lists
  • Get quick facts on any link thanks to Factery labs data.
  • Post something on both services simultaneously
  • Upload pictures
  • Search Twitter

Just looking at the list offhand, I can’t think of any functionality that might be considered missing.  Not only is it extremely useful, but if you check out the screenshots below you can see that it looks sexy too.  I am curious if they plan on adding in MySpace and LinkedIn functionality, much like their software on the PC.  Sure, it isn’t exactly a deal breaker, but it sure would make for a nice free update at some point down the road.  All of your digital worlds have collided in one place; it is only a matter of time before you get on board as well.

With more and more people signing onto social networks as of late ther ie really no doubting the fact that people are becoming much more involved in eachother’s social lives than ever before. Thanks to innovitive services like Gowalla and Foursquare, users have been able to update their friends of their visits to various establishments around the country. Get a burger from a local joint? Use your iPhone to check into Gowalla and tell your friends – it’s that simple.

Well, it looks like Facebook is leveraging their massive user base to launch yet another new feature that mimics the functionality of both Gowalla and Foursquare. Rumor has it an update for the iPhone app will be out sometime today or tomorrow that will feature a check-in feature dubbed Places. This will allow you to notify your friends of your visits to various locations - mimicker the Foursquare and Gowalla feature as mentioned above.

Can this spell doom for Foursquare and Gowalla? Well, it certainly can’t be a good thing.
