Angry Birds has proven itself time and time again to be one of the most (if not the most) popular application available for mobile platforms. Starting out with the Nokia N900 and iOS platform, Angry Birds is now available for additional platforms like Google’s Android.

Just yesterday we let you know that the game’s latest expansion dubbed Angry Birds Seasons had made its way to Android with no iOS version in sight. This made us wonder if Rovio had begun favoring Android and its massive userbase. Lucky for iOS users, it was oted today that Angry Birds Seasons has been made available in the App Store as well.

Priced at $0.99 or $1.99 for the HD version, Angry Birds Seasons brings with it a special level for each day of December. If you’ve already purchased the Halloween edition of Angry Birds, you will apparantly be able to upgrade to Angry Birds Seasons free of charge.

Anyone check it out yet?

While we’ve heard that many app developrs have made a living from the App Store or Android Market, there is one app that really defines success and that is Angry Birds. Developed by Rovio, Angry Birds has dominated the charts in both the App Store and Android Market pretty much ever since it was released. Following up on the success of the original release, Rovio has gone on to release a special edition for Halloween and now, Christmas, as we told you some time ago.

Today, Angry Birds Seasons has hit the Android Market and includes one special level for each day of December – kind of like an advent calendar. What’s strange about this is Angry Birds seasons is currently exclusive to the Android Market with no word on an iOS release.

Could Rovio be favoring Android this time around? We’ll have to wait and see.

Google’s Android has seen an install base on devices wide and far. While this is a good thing because it helps the platform’s ecosystem to grown, it’s a bad thing because it creatures market segmentation. In other words, not all Android devices are the same with some having newer software and others having beefier hardware. This poses a problem for app developers as in some cases they are forced to cater to the entire demographic and release several different versions.

Luckily, fans of Rovio’s Angry Birds who have an Android phone that could use a bit more muscle will be happy to know that the app developer will be releasing a sort of Lite edition for underpowered Android phones. Rovio assures us that this game will not feature less gameplay but will instead be optimized for use on devices will less processing power.

Below are a list of devices that Rovio says are not supported by the current version of Angry Birds:

• Droid Eris
• HTC Dream
• HTC Hero
• HTC Magic/G2/Sapphire/Mytouch 3G
• HTC Tattoo
• HTC Wildfire
• Huawei Ideos/U8150
• LG Ally/Aloha/VS740
• LG GW620/Eve
• Motorola Backflip/MB300
• Motorola Cliq/Dext
• Samsung Acclaim
• Samsung Moment/M900
• Samsung Spica/i5700
• Samsung Transform
• Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini
• T-Mobile G1

We’ll keep you posted as this alternate Angry Birds edition gets closer to release.

I’ve actually lost count of how many times we reported on Angry Birds, like when it was available for free for Android, and it is due for a sequel.

I’m not talking about the Halloween edition. This one is Angry Pigs, and it is told from the Pigs point of view. Apparently, the pigs have stolen the bird’s eggs, and the birds must slingshot themselves to attack the pigs.

So, is this like Donkey Kong Jr., where the hero of Donkey Kong, Mario, is now the villain? We shall see, and see how well it goes over.

It’s great to be able to send smileys via SMS but wouldn’t it be nice to have a bit more variety? Enter TextPics, an app that provides over 250 customisable ASCII art pieces that you can text to your friends or add to your clipboard. Adding to the clipboard is particularly useful as it means you can then insert the art into emails or other apps such as Facebook or Twitter.

The variety of art is pretty entertaining. There’s the cutesy in the form of bunny rabbits, Halloween themed ones like pumpkins and ghosts and there’s even the quirky in the form of the bunny tank. Besides those, there are also ones aimed at occasions such as birthday cake, Christmas trees and even shamrocks. Not all are as impressive or as useful as they could be. Pictures like a man with a moustache are impressively designed but ultimately a bit pointless. The amount of choice is fantastic though.

Besides offering pictures of items or living things, there are also various emoticons, Japanese smileys and even the ability to convert anything you want to upside down text.

It’s all rather excellent fun. It’s a shame that you can only really text to other iPhone users, as it might not be displayed correctly, but the ability to copy images into other apps is fantastic.

If you fancy trying your luck at creating your own images, you can do so and submit them to the TextPics server, which is a nice touch. TextPics has had various new pics and emotes added in recent updates so if this can be continued for a while, it’ll just continue to be more and more useful. A bargain at its current price and even more so in the future by the looks of things.
