The job of a wireless carrier is a none too easy one as with such a hardcore user base, there is always going to be some rotten eggs. Luckily, the various carriers have been doing a generally Good job with no one getting to much heat and each receiving their face share of love. Of course, San Francisco inhabitants may beg to differ who are AT&T subscribers, but we’ll save that for another time.

One thing that people have been quite upset with Verizon Wireless about is the fact that they have been overcharging customers for data. This was due to the fact that even when not in use, devices were still pulling data for various reasons and being added to a customer’s monthly bill. Luckily, Verizon has just announced today that they will be refunding about 15 million customers for that overcharge.

Of course don’t expect to go buy a new iPad with this refund as Verizon says most will be in the $2-6 range. Bummer.

Pocketbooth is a new Photo booth picture App that is one of the most stylish and fun on the App Store. Offering a retro style and easy to use user interface (UI), this Photo booth App is quickly gaining attention as one of the best.

Apparently modeled after a 1950’s Model 11 Photo booth, the App itself creates a frame with a sort of light behind it, as you’d be used to from the photo booths. When the light is Red, get ready to pose for your pictures! It quickly snaps a few pics, and then shuffles you off to the next screen to wait for your pictures strip to show up.

There are some great options built in so you don’t have to settle for the defaults on some of the aspects of this App. You can select if you want 4 or 3 pictures taken (although, have you ever seen a photo booth that only takes 3 pics?! I sure haven’t), you can select if you want the pics in B&W or color, you can also choose ‘Matte’ or ‘Glossy’ paper stock (which just alters the picture strip slightly). You can change the time between pictures from 2, 3 or 4 seconds, and from within the settings, or in the photo taking screen, you can swap between the front-facing camera or the rear facing camera!

The photo strips are automatically saved within the app; you also have the option to export them to your iPhone photo library. You can also send via Email, to Facebook or share on Twitter. This is where the app fails me only slightly. There’s no MMS option, which I think is a real shame. In addition, the app doesn’t allow you to choose which Twitter Photo service you want to use — it defaults to Plexi, which is OK, I guess, but I so much prefer TwitPic and wish that I had the option to use it instead. Obviously there is a way around this though, as I can save the strip to my phone and use my regular twitter client to update (bothersome though, to be sure).

Other than those minor objections, I really enjoy PocketBooth and know that it will be one of the apps I keep on my iPhone, pull out at parties and take and share pics with friends. For this price, you really, really can’t go wrong, so do check it out!

Those who have enjoyed FaceTime probably enjoy apps to make it easier, such as FacePlant.

This is another app to make FaceTime easier with FaceNow. This app allows you to add contacts from your address book, and then get in touch with FaceTime contacts with one touch of a button.

You should be able to get it now at a price of absolutely free.

When I first started the App up, the first thing I noticed was the super realistic blue marble on screen. The Day/Night, Light/Dark sides of the Earth are both brilliant, especially considering the cloud cover is accurate meteorologically and updates often with the changes in real life. I’m also looking forward to the little globe updating with the seasons, and seeing if I’ll be able to see our snow cover up here in Canada (if we get any this year!).

You can set up multiple time zones and flip through, and as you do the earth spins and focuses on the spot where it’s providing you the information for (with a faint white glow), you can also set the earth to rotate on its own, which is one of my favorite things to do. I set the ‘Leave Screen On’ while it’s on the dock on my desk and simply have it slowly rotating around and around, from day to night, while still providing me with the weather and forecast info, it’s a pretty and functional desk accessory.

While at this price, this App definitely fits the bill, I do hope that they stick to their word (in the App Description on iTunes) and add an alarm clock in a future update. If they can manage to add a few more functional features, they might be able to boost the price up, however, if they added an alarm and kept it at this price, they would have one of the best and most visually stunning alarm clock Apps available.

If you want to check it out for yourself, you can do so on either the iPhone or iPad as this is a universal App.
