While Apple’s iPad and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab have been all over the news, several competing hardware manufacturers are working tirelessly to get their own offerings onto the market. One such company is Research in Motion (RIM) of BlackBerry smartphone fame.

If you’ve been with us for a while you probably remember that RIM is preparing their own tablet dubbed the BlackBerry PlayBook which will be running a unique operating system (called BlackBerry Tablet OS) and will feature things like a 7-inch screen 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, an HD webcam and more. While we’ve heard of the PlayBook a good deal, we’ve yet to get official confirmation as to when the tablet will actually be hitting store shelves or how it will compete against some of its hardest hitting competitors.

Well today we are proud to tell you that a video has hit the web of a RIM employee comparing the BlackBerry PlayBook against Apple’s iPad. In the video, he shows that the BlackBerry PlayBook’s web browser loads pages much faster than the iPads – in some cases even finishing before the iPad began.

As we’ve told you countless times in the past, the tablet craze is in full swing with hardware manufacturers everywhere rushing to get their own products onto the market. Of course, just about every new tablet that gets announced is inevitably stacked up against Apple’s iPad considering it is regarded as the device that started this craze. Unfortunately, not many tablets that have made their way onto the market are quite up to par with the iPad but that is all to change very soon.

Samsung’s Android 2.2 powered Galaxy Tab is the device that many say will give the iPad a much needed run for its money. Featuring things such as a 7-inch AMOLED display, a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera and a 3 megapixel rear facing camera the Samsung Galaxy Tab certainly has quite a bit of firepower. The only thing that many are saying will curb consumer attention is the fact that the device will require another wireless subscription.

Luckily, an advertisement for the Samsung Galaxy Tab has appeared at a Best Buy touting a WiFi-only version starting at $499.99. For some, this may be quite steep for a 7-inch tablet but at least we will soon have an alternative to the iPad, right?
