340x toddler popup iPhone becoming a toddler’s toy of choice?I saw this article that you can read at my Source which claims that experts are worried about iPhones becoming a “toy of choice” amongst toddlers.

Considering that my three-year-old son loves the iPod Touch, and will often cry when the battery runs out, I completely believe it.

I suppose that every generation has its electronic vices, and perhaps the iPhone is this one. It would be good to know that in order to help the next generation to learn. Take the Woogie, for example.

500x gyrosynth GyroSynth for the iPhoneI have seen a lot of music making apps on the iPhone, like DopplerPad, even a whole rock band that was able to play on iPhones alone.

This one is GyroSynth, and it uses the iPhone 4’s gyroscope as well as the touchscreen for some interesting synthesizing sounds with roll, pitch, and yaw. I would imagine that it would take a lot of practice to get a good rhythm going, but what instrument does.

You can try it out for yourself for just $1.

500x cameracamouflage Camera Camouflage lets you take your iPhone shots secretlyOne of the problems of taking a picture with a camera phone is that people can see you are taking a picture with a camera phone.

If you want to take a covert pic from your iPhone, you might want to get this Camera Camouflage. This is an App that is voice activated and looks like you’re getting a phone call.

The user can even set the App to activate your ringtone so that the phone can be “picked up”. As soon as you start talking, the photos start shooting. The iPhone 4 will turn off the flash by default.

You should be able to get this App for about $0.99 on the iTunes website.

IMG 0685 300x225 iPhotographer: Better Photos With The Rule Of ThirdsYou are now ready to elevate your iPhone photos to the next level. After all, the internet is full of quick snapshots, party pics, and other miscellaneous photos that do not do iPhone photography justice. How do you take this budding art and make it a richer photographic experience? Start by following the most fundamental of all photography laws: The Rule of Thirds.

What is the rule of thirds you ask? Without diving into the science of how the human eye works, this rule is about simply breaking your photos into thirds, and then using those thirds to your advantage. Utilize this rule in two ways for richer photos. First, pretend there is a TIC-TAC-TOE board on whatever you are going to photograph. Now, place your subject in any of the four intersecting points of this grid. If you have multiple subjects, fret not, try to place each subject in one to two of the intersecting points. The second part of this rule applies to breaking your photo into thirds. Let us say you are going to shoot a sunset over a lake nestled in a forest. Place the lake in the bottom third, the tree line should consume the middle third, and the sky the top third.

IMG 0683 300x225 iPhotographer: Better Photos With The Rule Of ThirdsMaybe you can’t get the rule of thirds right away in your shot, have no worries, as you can apply the rule of thirds in a bit of post processing. Apps like Filterstorm and Photoshop Express will throw up a grid when you go to rotate your images. Use this grid to help visualize where images to fit into this rule, and if some cropping is going to be necessary. It may not be a perfect solution, but it will help you end up with better photos.

There are times you may break this simple rule, but when in doubt, stick to the rule. There is a reason this rule has stood the test of time, equipment, and improving technology. The next time you are just going to snap a photo with your iPhone, apply this rule, and watch as your photos become much more interesting.

Ghostwriter1 200x300 Ghostwriter Review Ghostwriter is a simple photo editing app that lets you add certain ’spooky’ effects to the photos you’ve taken of your friends and family, and lets you share them. It’s not meant to be the world’s most powerful photo editing app, but it offers a variety of spooky Halloween-flavored effects which will definitely amuse kids. It is a good option for a limited budget to share in the fun of making your costumed photos just a bit creepier.

What you’ll first want to do is actually go into the settings. You’ll have to select how you want to edit your photo before you even import it. This is one of the few problems I had with the functionality of this app. Most, if not all, photo editing apps let you import your source, and then allow users to edit the effects from there. Nevertheless, you’ll want to choose your Spooky Editing options from within the settings before you import or take your photo.

There are a small selection of options to choose from. Ghostwriter4 199x300 Ghostwriter ReviewFirst and probably most popular will be adding text – there are six preset messages, such as “Trick or Treat,” “I Want Candy,” “Something Wicked This Way Comes” and more. However, do you have the option to add your own message as well. From here you can select one of the two fonts available. After you’ve chosen the text, go ahead and choose if you want some ‘Goulish Miasma,’ or other effects like ‘Diabolical Light.’

Finally, a few other options let you decide if the picture will display with a sound effect, if you want to save the originals (for when you take a photo from within the app), or reset all your options. Once you’ve make your selections, go back out to the main page, import your photo, and see your creation! You can play the sound effects over and over, if you like. You can edit the text at this point if you’re not happy with what it says (but not the font or effects). Finally, go ahead and either save your spooky creation or email it to a friend.

That’s Ghostwriter in a nutshell, a simple holiday app for Halloween – pick it up if you’re interested in a simple, easy way to make spooky theme pictures for your Halloween memories!
