Do you have any doubt that Android is quickly becoming the biggest name in the mobile world? Well, if the immense amount of Android powered handsets wasn’t enough then perhaps you should check out a tweet recently sent by Google’s very own Andy Rubin.

According to Mr. Rubin, 300,000 mobile phones are being activated each and every day powered by the Android mobile operating system. To put this into comparison, Apple CEO Steve Jobs took center stage back in September to let us know that there were roughly 230,000 iOS activations per day. Just to note, Rubin makes an effort to say phones, while Jobs says iOS devices in general which includes the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. This would lead one to believe that if Google factored in tablets, those figures would be much higher.

What ever the case may be, Android is growing, and it’s growing fast. Have you hopped on board yet? Do you plan on doing so?

CES 2011 is just around the corner which means a whole slew of new devices and technologies are sure to get announced. While we’ve had some speculation over what will be announced, new rumors and reports are surfacing left and right. The latest of such rumors to surface is one surrounding the popular VoIP service Skype.

Skype has been an immensely popular voice and video chatting service for desktop platforms but has made its way to mobile platforms like iOS and Android as well. However, one thing that the mobile application does not feature is the ability to make video conference calls – a highly sought after featured offering by competitors like fring.

However, Skype has begun sending out invites to an event they will be holding during CES 2011. What exactly with the VoIP giant be announcing, you ask? Well, our best best (and half the Internet’s) is that they will finally be taking the wraps off of their mobile video calling service.

Unfortunately, until that is made official, that remains nothing more than speculation.

Android is one of the hottest mobile platforms and its latest version, 2.3 aka Gingerbread, is the talk of the town. However, seeing how some devices have either yet to get or have just gotten the Android ‘Froyo’ 2.2 update it would be ridiculous to think that Gingerbread is coming soon. Luckily, for those of you who don’t mind going the not so official route, the Android community has managed to port the latest version to various handsets.

The most recent of such handsets to get the unofficial Gingerbread treatment seems to be the HTC Droid Incredible. According to various reports that have surfaced today, the Android hacking community has nearly completed an Android 2.3 ROM for the Droid Incredible. Of course, this doesn’t guarantee it will be out soon but if the past is anything to go by, it sure will be.

Be sure to check back where we’ll keep you posted on the latest Android developments.

We have seen Speck put out a lot cool things like the Holdster and iPhone cases. Then there is that leatherette case for the iPad that we just covered earlier.

This is the DustJacket for the Kindle version 3, and its reading stand is able to retract into the front cover, closing over the front like a book jacket. Like the iPad cover, it has a micro fleece lined interior, and then has a quick-release locking tab.

You should be able to get it in Black or Red for $34.95.

There have been so many Android powered smartphones that it’s getting hard to track which was the top dog at what time. Not too long ago, one of the most hyped devices was the HTC Legend, the HTC Hero’s successor. Compared to modern day devices the Legend’s specs are quite slim with a 3.2-inch touchscreen, 600MHz processor and 5 megapixel camera. However, thanks to the Android platform, the Legend was a superstar in its day and age.

For those of you that still have an HTC Legend, you will be happy to know that the Android 2.2 update is getting pushed out tomorrow. If you see an available update today, make note that this is not Froyo but instead Android 2.05.405.2. This update will reportedly prep the Legend for tommorow’s update to Froyo.

Now we just need a Gingerbread update and we’ll be set.
