“War of the Worlds” comes to the iPad http://androidiphoneapps.com/2010/10/05/%e2%80%9cwar-of-the-worlds%e2%80%9d-comes-to-the-ipad.html http://androidiphoneapps.com/2010/10/05/%e2%80%9cwar-of-the-worlds%e2%80%9d-comes-to-the-ipad.html#comments Wed, 06 Oct 2010 00:36:23 +0000 j4352 http://androidiphoneapps.com/2010/10/05/%e2%80%9cwar-of-the-worlds%e2%80%9d-comes-to-the-ipad.html

Some of you might remember when we reported that Dracula was coming to the iPad. The App is less of an ebook and more of an interactive game, and someone decided to take the Victorian story of War of the Worlds and give it the same treatment.

You can watch the video and see how the user can touch the tripods to make them destroy things, as well as wiping the condensation off of windows. It looks like a lot of fun, and could easily distract you from the actual story.

The App is selling for a launch-only special price of $3.99, and you might want to get it before the price goes up to $7.99.

Zynga’s Social Media Snoop Dogg Promotion Breaks UStream Record http://androidiphoneapps.com/2010/08/24/zynga%e2%80%99s-social-media-snoop-dogg-promotion-breaks-ustream-record.html http://androidiphoneapps.com/2010/08/24/zynga%e2%80%99s-social-media-snoop-dogg-promotion-breaks-ustream-record.html#comments Tue, 24 Aug 2010 23:32:19 +0000 j4352 http://androidiphoneapps.com/2010/08/24/zynga%e2%80%99s-social-media-snoop-dogg-promotion-breaks-ustream-record.html

Screen shot 2010 08 24 at 4.43.37 PM Zynga’s Social Media Snoop Dogg Promotion Breaks UStream Record
Last Thursday, Zynga hired Snoop Doggy Dogg to blow up a 4 ton armored truck in the middle of a desert in Nevada. The explosion video was part of a promotion for Zynga’s new social game Mafia Wars Las Vegas.

It turns out that the original event broke a UStream record of 2 million live views at once. Another reason for the promotional celebration is because Zynga celebrated 10 million visitors of the game in two weeks.

This was UStream’s most viewed one-time event in 2010. This further proves that social media is an essential component of any marketing campaign.

Zynga had a celebration for Mafia Wars in San Francisco as well, but the city did not take it well. Zynga glued fake $25,000 bills to the sidewalks in San Francisco that led people to see the Mafia Wars website. The Deputy City Attorney of San Francisco Alex Tse said that this marketing tactic showed “documented acts of sidewalk vandalism.” He said he plans to take action against Zynga for their illegal marketing idea.

You can watch the video of the event below thanks to TechCrunchTV.

Mobile Photo Aug 6 2010 12 05 38 PM 200x300 Fluid FX ReviewAutodesk’s Fluid FX for iPhone claims to bring the “excitement of Hollywood visual effects” to your iDevice (it’s a universal app, though this review is based on the iPhone version). Based on Autodesk’s award-winning fluid-dynamics program, Maya, the Fluid FX app allows you to manipulate images using a variety of effects. It’s a fun timewaster, but the user interface is frustratingly unintuitive which makes this novelty app even less useful.

Fluid FX comes with a number of preset images for you to play with, ranging from faces of the developers to animals. The real fun comes when you add effects to these images. Based on which effect you have selected, you can make fireballs dance across the screen, swirl and inflate the photo you’re editing, or create ghostly lighting effects that vanish like smoke. Watch the video; it’s worth it.

You can adjust the effects using the app’s control panel, and meticulously tweak the images on your own; the app supports up to ten touch points, so multiple people can play. Or, you can hit the “play” button and the app will use the effect settings to continuously alter your image.

Unfortunately, the full potential of Fluid FX is severely hampered by the user interface. It’s remarkably unintuitive, and there’s no tutorial. It took me forever to figure out how to pick ONE preset image instead of having the app scroll through them all while I was editing.

Fluid FX is still a fun time-waster, but…well, you don’t want to waste your time, in a time-waster app, trying to figure out the controls. Besides that, Fluid FX is just a novelty, albeit an entertaining one that can create some nifty pictures. Until the interface is improved, I’d recommend passing on this one.

Otamatone iPhone App http://androidiphoneapps.com/2010/08/04/otamatone-iphone-app.html http://androidiphoneapps.com/2010/08/04/otamatone-iphone-app.html#comments Wed, 04 Aug 2010 06:16:05 +0000 Duy Phong http://androidiphoneapps.com/2010/08/04/otamatone-iphone-app.html

I’ve seen a lot of music playing apps before, like the DopplerPad App. This is a video for the Otomatone App, and it is in Japanese.

It is based on an Otomatone, a weird musical instrument that you have to squeeze and play out of its “mouth”. It costs about $36, but it is available in App form.

You can watch the video with touchscreen and gyroscope functions, and the App itself is about $2.99. Enjoy.
