Just about every big name cell phone that hits the streets gets a huge amount of hype behind it. Of course, seeing how some companies get much more publicity than other, it should come as no surprise that some handsets have much more successful launches. One such example of this is with the Apple iPhone.

If you’ve been paying attention you’ll know that the iPhone 4’s release was quite highly publicized in just about media outlet in the book. Of course, not all of this was good press as the infamous iPhone 4 antenna gate issue was made very well know but we’ll save that for another time.

Another problem that plagued the iPhone 4 was the absence of the white model. At the time of the device’s announcement, Apple CEO Steve Jobs let us know that the white model would not be shipping along with the white. However, depsite this, some companies have been selling replacement front and back panels to transform your iPhone 4 into a white model.

What you see above was a white iPhone 4 spotted in New York City. According to the owner, this iPhone 4 is real and was given to him by someone within Apple. Also according ot the owner, the reason Apple has yet to release the white iPhone 4 is because the part manufacturers have been unable to match the home button’s white shade with the front panels.

Is this be believed? We aren’t quite sure but lets hope the white iPhone 4 makes it around sooner rather than later as before we know it the iPhone 5 will be rolling around.

Today we’ve got a downright baffling product for you today–the folks out at Cyberguys sent us one of their new Horn Stands for the iPhone 4 (and it’s been suggested that the iPhone 3GS will also work, though I found some compatibility with other devices too.

The Horn Stand, as you can see in the picture set below, is basically just a shaped plastic with an ear trumpet-esque horn connecting it. Slip your iPhone in the device, use the white button on the front to turn it on, and let the horn amplify the sound to what reports suggest will get up to twelve decibels.

Naturally, I don’t have a sound meter, so I can’t say if this actually does hit twelve decibels, but the sound does sound amplified. It fulfills its intended purpose, and it does so pretty well. I mean, it’s just a shaped lump of what I’m guessing is rubber that works like a phonograph trumpet to amplify sound. It also, parenthetically, serves as an iPod Touch stand, and will even amplify an external speaker device, for instance, a Sony NWZ-S545 Walkman.

The upshots here are surprisingly many–it’s durable (probably unbreakable–I chucked it at a wall three times and it bounced off easily), easy to clean, performs multiple tasks and does them surprisingly well. But at the end of the day, it’s still just a hunk of shaped rubber that kind of makes your external speakered devices slightly louder.

And this particular amplifier can be picked up for $24.95 out at cyberguys.com.

So if you’re looking for a device that’ll throw some extra volume into your iPhone, no matter where you are, without so much as any kind of power, then you’ll be all over this thoroughly mechanical solution. But if you needed more power in your speakers, well, you’d need significantly more power to begin with.

The Good

Incredible durability

Variety of useful functions

Absolutely no power draw

The Bad

Limited effectiveness

Score 7 / 10

It’s funny. I had literally just checked Apple’s website yesterday to see if the shipping times for the iPhone 4 had improved any, and it was still on the 2-3 weeks schedule. Now I check today, and what do you know? Shipping is now an estimated 5-7 business days. Is supply finally catching up with demand? More importantly, does this bode well for the white iPhone 4? You know you have a problem on your hands when you are playing a puzzle game that gives you four hints per puzzle and you still have problems winning. Maybe that sentence should’ve started with, “you know your a redneck when…”

Zentomino is described by the developer as a game of pentominoes. Since most of the world has no idea what a pentomino is (including my spell checker), it is a game that gives you one big shape, and you have to exactly fill it with a bunch of odd shaped blocks (each block is made up of five squares, hence the “pent”). While the individual shapes never change per se, it is up to you to rotate and flip them to get them to fit in the puzzle. Pieces can only be used once, and not every piece is used in every puzzle, so you must pick wisely.

If/when you get stuck, you can ask the game for help up to four times. Some of the levels, as explained earlier, are pretty rough even after hint #4, but I suppose that the dev might as well turn the game into a YouTube video if they are just going to give you a fifth clue.

With 240 levels to begrudgingly march through, you’ll have plenty of Zentomino to play from now until the end of time. If you get too upset about not being able to solve a puzzle, just ease your ears into the soothing zen sounds that the game throws at you in your moments of fury. In all fairness, Zentomino really is a great game that will certainly test even the most senior of puzzle masters. If you are a fan of the genre, you won’t be disappointed with Zentomino. You may be upset by your lack of pentomino prowess, but don’t blame it on the game.

Research in Motion has just recently released their BlackBerry 6 mobile operating system and has received positive reception. However, in order to further the success of their new platform they will have to have some capable hardware to accompany it. Today, a new device that will be BlackBerry 6 ready has been leaked dubbed the BlackBerry Bold 9780.

As you can see from the leaked picture, the BlackBerry Bold 9780 does not feature a design much different from, say, the Blackberry Bold 9700. Not much is currently known about this device but we’ll keep you posted as things like the specs are made known.
