img 0699 200x300 Crazy HotdogsCrazy Hotdogs is in the same style as the popular cooking / selling / trading games. You have a product to make, and customers to sell to. You have to make up the correct orders and serve the correct people before they get too angry, or leave (or similar to that). Unfortunately this game just doesn’t seem to be as good as the other ones out there.

About Crazy Hotdogs… The initial opening screen is really wonderful, great animation and music to get you into the excitement of selling these hotdogs. (Can that be exciting?) When you are past that, and into the game you have the options of Game Start, Records, Settings, Instruction, More Games and About. Settings are just the typical sound options so not much to see there. The Instructions area is broken into the different tasks and how to do things. It is all just text info and I’m not sure there is any need to ever refer to this. Besides that, I have played so many of these types of games (and you may find yourself in the same situation) that you just don’t want to waste time on instructions for what should be a straightforward game.

img 0698 200x300 Crazy HotdogsSo, once it is launched you can choose to read the game instructions. I choose not to because after a while you pretty much understand the game play, cook something and serve it right? Well, when you launch the game you are taken through a tutorial. I really think this is a mistake of the game. It was so slow and boring that it really put me off the game right away.

I wanted to just get into the game and start playing, not be made to serve a pathetic amount of hot dogs and wait for the next day to begin zzzzzzz. This is the initial ‘mission mode’ that must be completed. Please developers, do not make us sit through boring levels we don’t need to. Let us jump straight in!

Unfortunately, I really did not like the game play in terms of the grill area and customer service screen. You are basically looking at a huge grill area and then you see these circles for heads (which get angry and complain far too fast and too often). You then click them and your grill disappears and the hotdogs are on plates which you serve from. Then you have to click back on the game to cook more. It was awkward and confusing. <--- this probably doesn't make sense, have a look at the image below for a better view of what I am trying to describe.

img 0696 Crazy Hotdogs

It’s just plain awkward.

I played the entire first level, which you must complete before you can do Free mode. Once you have unlocked Free Mode the game is much better. In free mode you get a lot of customers and have to serve pretty fast. It is much more exciting and the game play gets miles better. I wish we could just start in free mode. Also, I couldn’t find a way to get rid of any raw or burnt hotdogs, most games have a garbage near by that you can get rid of them. Because there isn’t a way it means that you serve them to customers and your rating goes down.

Also, where is the ketchup and mustard? Fries? Drinks…. the game seems to be a bit too one dimensional at the moment, but the way the screen is set out there really is no where to add this stuff.

If you can get past the first level tutorial I think it is a fun game overall, as long as you get used of the screen. Try the free one and see for yourself before you buy it would be my best advice for you. There are other ‘lite’ versions of similar games that are worth your time.

Be aware that the video from them below, features very little of the actual game play, only a few seconds worth in the middle.

Crazy Hotdog Tailgate Party – Celebrity bloopers here

Overall I would give this a miss in all honesty. For this style of game there are now so many out there and so many fantastic ones that you really have to step up your game in order to make a mark. I’m afraid this one misses it.

firework frenzy iphone 200x300 Go Fourth With Firework FrenzyWhen I first saw Firework Frenzy in the App Store I was reminded of an older online game with a similar name where you exploded fireworks of different shapes by filling them in with puzzle pieces. I was sort of hoping Firework Frenzy would be a revival of that game. As it is, Firework Frenzy is similar to the current online game of the same name, and while I’m not sure the developers of Firework Frenzy online and Firework Frenzy for iPhone are in league together, it appears to be the only firework game currently in the app store. And what an apropos title for the upcoming holiday weekend.

Firework Frenzy for iPhone and touch is a game where you try to score as many points as possible by tapping on the fireworks that shoot into the sky. You get maximum points by timing your tapping explosions just right. There are nine different venues, three in each difficulty mode of easy, medium, and hard and each level is timed. You have until the time runs out to score enough points to unlock the next level and continue playing.

While I’d hate to offer comparisons that shouldn’t be made, Firework Frenzy online is set over a semi-realistic nighttime view of London. Even though there are morons who have been known to deploy fireworks from their back yards in the middle of the day, it seems to me that nighttime makes for better use of the festive shells and mortars. Still, many of the venues in Firework Frenzy are daytime venues – such as the BBQ in the front yard, the birthday party in the back yard, and the wedding on the beach.

The selection of venues, or rather just the oddity of selecting daytime venues, aside, Firework Frenzy is a fairly pleasantly animated game. Some of the graphics are kind of cheesy, but they serve as a background only. The only really annoying part is the recurring sounds the invisible crowd makes. Instead of “ooohing” and “aahhhing” in appreciation, if you miss one or set it off too early, they “boo” at you. And it’s not like a “boo-hiss” noise where their invisible disappoint is obvious, it actually sounds more like the sound the video crowds in a golf game would make if you barely miss the cup – only stuck on repeat. Sometimes they make that noise and you don’t even know why. And since you can’t turn them off, you’re stuck with them.

Minor annoyances in presentation aside, Firework Frenzy is currently the only such game available in the App Store to help put you in that festive, go-Fourth mood. It’s a relatively casual game that anyone can play, but switching up the difficulty levels and skipping the earlier and easier ones really bumps up the challenge. Hard mode is as close to a frenzy of fireworks as you’re likely to get and the real challenge is to unlock the final two levels. You can also buy firework upgrades after clearing levels to unlock all the colors available.

Firework Frenzy may not be a huge blast as far as games go, but it’s by no means the worst game out there and its casual presentation and learning curve make it practical enough for anyone to play. So go ahead and give it a try – it should prove an OK way to kill time while you’re sitting in your camp chair this weekend waiting for the real show to start.

geohot 3gs jailbreak Geohot Releases His Own IPhone 3GS Jailbreak

Deciding that waiting around for the Dev-Team to release its iPhone 3GS jailbreak solution is for chumps, original iPhone unlocker Geohot has released his own jailbreaking method, with the help of chronic dev and a few others, that he has dubbed purplera1n. Best. Name. Ever. As it stands, purplera1n only supports Windows rigs (Windows 7 and 64-bit excluded) but OS X support is on the way. Hit the read link to grab a copy of purplera1n and get all the instructions you’ll need to get your Cydia fix on. And happy jailbreaking!

P.S. We’ve heard that ultrasn0w works, but it is a bit flaky for the time being.

purplera1n 253x280 Jailbreak Your IPhone 3GS With Purplera1n; Unlock It With Ultrasn0wThere you have it folks, the iPhone 3GS has been unlocked! The iPhone Dev Team hasn’t launched a new unlock software. And there’s no need to do so for now. Don’t try this at home, especially if technology kinda scares you away! What you have to do in order to unlock the new iPhone is to jailbreak it first using purplera1n and then unlock it using the ultrasn0w made by the iPhone Dev Team. That’s how it’s supposed to work although we won’t be surprised if the hack isn’t 100% efficient:

Louis said…Excellent Jailbreak program! RC2 seems to work better than RC1. Make sure you restore your iPhone 3GS with the original firmware 3.0 from Apple, then run Purplrra1n RC2 from Windows. You must have a valid ATT SIM card to activate the phone, then run Freeze to install Cydia. After rebooting, update Cydia and install ULTRASN0W, then you are ready to use any SIM card you have. Enjoy a jailbroken and unlocked iPhone 3GS!

The iPhone Dev Team will release it’s unlock solution once iPhone 3.1 OS is in place so you’ll have to be patient for a while!
