dodge photochop 2011 01 25 512 Dodge sucks at Photoshop: the Verizon Droid with AT&T 3G

Ever wish you could get a Verizon-labeled phone running on AT&T, and do it with full bars and a 3G no less? Get yourself one of the Dodge’s new and free virtual product manuals, available now for iPhone and soon coming to BlackBerry and Android. They’re a continuation of the sort of thing Chrysler announced back at CES, just letting you view information about your vehicle and maybe some aftermarket parts too. They’re available now for the Durango and Charger, with coverage for the Avenger, Journey, and Grand Caravan coming before the end of the month. Full details about the apps in the PR below, but sadly no information on exactly where we should stick the SIM card in our Droid.

[Thanks, Joe]

App Store Twitter Account The App Store Gets An Official Twitter Account

Who says Apple doesn’t like Twitter? The hilarious @CEOSteveJobs Twitter account was recently approached by Twitter (on Apple’s behalf ) and asked to make clear that the account was parody and not reflective of Apple Inc. While Apple had a bad impression of Twitter in that case, the company still understands the value in the “tweet.”

Apple has a few official Twitter accounts in existence. The @AppStore is the newest addition. The App Store welcomed itself into the Twittersphere with the tweet, “Welcome to App Store on Twitter! Follow us to discover new apps, get exclusive offers, and share with friends. #appstore”

Apple will use @AppStore for featured apps, promotions, and hopefully some interesting App Store facts and statistics…

Gail Davis iTunes Gift Card Winner Woman Hangs Up on $10,000 iTunes Gift Card Phone Call

When Orpington, England resident Gail Davis tapped “install” to download Paper Glider, she got a free game. Unbeknownst to her, the install also yielded her a $10,000 iTunes gift card; the result of being the 10 billionth app downloaded in the history of the App Store.

I guess you could say that Davis had impeccable timing. Unfortunately her timing skills didn’t carry over to an extremely timely phone call; one from Eddy Cue, Apple’s VP of iTunes.

You see, Davis mistakenly perceived the phone call to be nothing more than a prank, so she hung up the phone…

10billiondownloads $10,000 iTunes Gift Card Winner Hangs Up On Apple, Almost Loses Prize

If you have a home telephone you’re sure to hvae received a call from an annoying telemarketer who starts out your best friend but soon attempts to persuade you into a sale. Well, a woman by Gail Davis is all to familiar with these telemarketers and has a tendency to hang up on them. However, when an Apple representative called and she hung up, she almost missed out on the chance of a lifetime.

If you’ve been paying attention you’ll know that Apple was handing out a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card to the lucky 10 billionth App Store downloader. Well, turns out that lucky downloader was Gail Davis who hung up on the Apple representative who was calling to give her the card. Luckily, the VP of iTunes, Eddy Cue, got wind of this and phoned Gail giving her the gift card and turned this potential disaster into happily ever after.

airview01192011 1295447182 App review: AirView

We just came across a neat little iOS app called AirView which, as you can probably tell from the name, transforms your iOS devices into AirPlay video receivers. And since iOS can also output video via AirPlay, this means you can use AirView to either grab AirPlay streams from your computer’s iTunes, or you can stream videos from one iOS device to another (provided that they are both running iOS 4.2 and above, of course). Theoretically, little work is required to get the ball rolling — just launch the app, then play your desired video clip from the source, and finally pick your client device using the AirPlay button.

We say theoretically, because it took us awhile to figure out that none of our purchased videos worked, even though AirPlay supports DRM content — the assumption is that AirView lacks the component for receiving authorization key. Alas, we stuck with our, ahem, homemade videos which actually worked very well over both iTunes-to-iOS and iOS-to-iOS connections, although sometimes we had to relaunch AirView and the iPod app to start a new stream. Perhaps some folks will have better luck than us, so feel free to give this app a go — it is free, after all. Video demo after the break.
