I had never associated Samsung with good cell phones–usually I’d associated them with terrific home theater systems and televisions that looked and sounded great but controlled like bizarre puzzle boxes. But I’m having to adjust that perception literally every day, and the Samsung M330 is one of those phones that’s making me do it.
The Samsung M330 is a slider-style cell phone with speakerphone, Bluetooth connectivity, a phone book with capacity for five hundred names and numbers, mobile web, mobile email, text and picture messenger capability, Java applications, alarm clock, calendar, calculator, a VGA camera, three game demos, and a battery capable of yielding about six hours and twenty minutes of talk time.
Any time a phone has Java, in my experience, it’s got a lot of great possibilities. It may start out as a bland, mediocre phone without a whole lot of juice, but it can quickly add it in the form of any of dozens of ways. The Samsung M330, meanwhile, starts out with a decent amount of features, and adds solid controls with plenty of room for future development.
It’s not all good news here, of course–the components are a bit low end, especially the camera. But still, as a relatively basic phone with some room for improvement, the Samsung M330 does the job nicely.
The Good
Easy to use
Good controls
Room for expansion
The Bad
Low end components
