iCloud Apple Paid the Labels $150 Million to Make iCloud Happen

Ever wondered what it’s going to cost Apple to bring your iCloud dreams to life? Well, according to the New York Post, Apple is paying the record labels a combined total of around $150 million for the rights to stream their music through the iCloud service – add that to the price of its new North Carolina data center and you have a pretty hefty sum.

Apple finalized its iCloud negotiations earlier this week after it struck a deal with Universal Music Group – the last of the four major record labels to sign up to the iCloud service. It has now also secured deals with the corresponding publishers just in time for its unveiling – and possible launch – at WWDC on Monday…(…)

Color Mail Labels 01 ‘Color Mail Labels’ Makes Your Unified Email Inbox Easier to Read

iOS 4.0′s release seems like an eternity ago, but it’s still one of my favorite iOS updates ever due to the unified email box.

The unified email box is a method to view all of your email in one spot; a culmination of all of your email accounts if you will.

But there is one standing issue that comes from having all of your email bunched together in one box – it’s difficult to tell where the email originated.

Wouldn’t it be great if it were easier to discern which emails came from which account? That’s where Color Mail Labels comes in…

Archos 101 Android Tablet 1 280x156 Archos 10.1 inch Android tabletI can’t remember the last time we covered Archos, they were up to some tablet thing, as always.

It would appear that the Archos 101 is yet another great one. The 101 has a 10.1 inch 1024 x 600 capacitive touchscreen display not to mention a microSD card slot, 720p HD video playback, WiFi, Bluetooth, and HDMI port as well as Android 2.2.

It’s nice that it comes out with Froyo, as a lot of these Android devices start with 2.1. You should be seeing it in mid-October for $300.

I think that we all know about some of the neat software of the Nokia N900 such as Chrome and that Firmware update a while ago.

At least, that is what these people at the University of Manchester in the UK are working on. Their prototype is able to track up to 22 facial features in realtime with the front facing camera.

As you can see in the video, tt has the ability to track when the camera is tilted, or even upside down. This active interface was developed for the EU-funded Mobile Biometrics, or MoBio project.

So, will all phones have this face recognition? That would imply that instead of passwords, you have to just let it scan your face.
