The folks out at Wirefly sent me a fantastic new phone to talk about, the Blackberry Storm 2. And though it’s not without its problems, it’s still got plenty of exciting plusses to it that’ll make it worth your time to have a look at if you’re out for a new phone.
The Blackberry Storm 2 is a smartphone that offers built in WiFi–the first ever CDMA Blackberry to do so. It also offers Java capability, realtime streaming video capability, mobile web, mobile email, a 3.2 megapixel camera, 3G wireless support over most of the planet, speakerphone, voice dialing, conference call capability, text messaging, Bluetooth connectivity, GPS with Blackberry Maps, DataViz Documents To Go Standard Edition, a series of social networking apps, MP3 player, video player, and plenty more besides.
I could actually fill a couple pages with the spec sheet on the Blackberry Storm 2, and at the end of the day all you really need to know is that this sucker comes LOADED. Even in normal areas like games, where you’d expect a Blackberry to be awful, there’s plenty to be had here.
But like I said, there is a problem here. Normally I rail on Blackberry phones because of their control schemes–that stupid little trackpad that usually works too well most of the time. But the Blackberry Storm 2 offers a touchscreen display, and this is a huge step up…or would be, if you didn’t have to press down on the screen pretty hard to get it to work properly. If it weren’t for this flaw, you’d have a really nice phone here.
The end result is a phone that’s still pretty solid, but has some serious control issues. Still though, the Blackberry Storm 2 is a phone with plenty to like, if they could just get the touchscreen worked out.
The Good
Loads of features
Good tech profile
Not much at all missing
The Bad
