prohdr photo app 200x300 With Pro HDR Camera App, iPhone Photos Rival the Real DealFor the uninitiated, HDR photography is all the rage, supplanting tilt-shift photography as the trendiest way to manipulate your photos and earn your Flickr feed a little extra attention. Previously the domain of only high-end digital SLR cameras and pricey photo manipulation software, it has now come to the Apple iPhone, in the form of a handful of competing apps. Pro HDR is among the most popular of these and easily among the top iPhone photo apps, too.

So, what is HDR photography anyway? HDR stands for “High Dynamic Range.” The “range” refers to the luminance of the photograph, specifically the difference between the lightest and the darkest parts of the picture. A typical photograph is at the mercy of the lighting conditions of the time and place at which it was taken. A skilled photographer might be able to reduce glare or squeeze a little more detail out of the shadows, but the result will rarely compare to the range of luminance recognized by the human eye. HDR photographs, on the other hand, more closely recreate the experience of being there.

The way HDR photography accomplishes this is a bit of cheat: HDR photographs are actually the combination of three exposures. Each exposure will capture a different level of detail, and then the exposures will be combined with an algorithm designed to retain the greatest degree of detail in each photograph. It is a complicated process, so any reader who wonders whether an iPhone app will be capable of pulling it off is justifiably skeptical. Pro HDR, however, will make short work of that skepticism. (…)

google voice logo How to Forward Your iPhone Voicemails to Google VoiceYesterday my iPhone notified me I had 14 voicemails within the last 6 days. Why didn’t it notify me of the new voicemails as they came? I have no idea. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t really pissed at my iPhone. Not only had I missed important voicemails that I should have received days ago, but it wasn’t the first time this had happened to me.

Like every normal person of the 21st century, I went to Twitter and started bitching about it. Within a few minutes I received replies from people telling me I should let Google Voice take over my iPhone. I already use Google Voice but I don’t want it to completely replace my normal line. Then someone told me I could actually replace my iPhone voicemails with Google Voice voicemails by forwarding my iPhone voicemails to Google Voice.

After doing a bit of research, this made complete sense to me and I decided to give it a go… Read More

Cydia ready for 4.2 Cydia Ready to Go for iOS 4.2

Last week we gave you a quick preview of a page on the new Cydia. At the time, Chpwn, who’s working with Saurik to update Cydia, said that this was all he had done so far. That wasn’t much and to be honest, it was kinda disappointing.

The good folks at Redmond Pie found out on Twitter that Cydia might now be ready for iOS 4.2. According to a tweet from Chpwn, Cydia for iOS 4.2 is “in ready position”… Read More

ForwardContact isn’t the most exciting app to talk about, admittedly. As it should, it does exactly what the description says. It doesn’t deviate, it doesn’t innovate, it doesn’t even throw in any unnecessary graphics – it just works.

mzl.croymfzc.320x480 75 208x300 ForwardContact reviewForwardContact is an app that’s sole aim is to help you pass contact information onto others faster. Upon loading the app, you’re presented with a fairly unexciting screen. Press choose and you can select any one of your contacts, then it’s a matter of choosing what information you want to SMS or email to someone. You can choose to add address details, phone number, email or instant message details to the message. Then it’s a simple matter of either pressing SMS or Mail and choosing who you want to send it to.

It really is that simple. It’s pretty useful for a certain niche audience too. If you’re someone who does a lot of networking and liaising in your work, so you want to be able to transfer information to others easily, this is invaluable. It’s simple and fast to do. The fact that it just uses your standard Mail and SMS app means there’s no additional setup required.

Most likely, ForwardContact isn’t an app that you’ll be using every day but when you do it’ll save you valuable time cutting and pasting information.

Disney had a busy App Store morning yesterday when it released four new apps. Well, three brand new apps and one very important update.

The update moves the hugely popular Radio Disney app, with over one million downloads, into the world of iOS4 functionality. This update brings multitasking support allowing users to run their radio in the background while interacting with other apps. Radio Disney, as always, is a free ad supported app that allows users to request songs, learn of local Radio Disney events, and send shout outs to Radio Disney and the on-air personalities populating its airwaves.

These first ever Playhouse Disney apps are Handy Manny’s Workshop and Flicker’s Flashcard Fiesta. For $2.99 each, preschoolers, parents and caregivers can enjoy the unique experience these apps deliver on any of the iOS platforms. As an added bonus Wilmer Valderrama, the voice actor of Handy Manny, provides his voice for the app as well.

Disney Mobile Studio Tabulous is releasing the final of the four apps, with its follow up Lady Gaga Revenge 2. Fans familiar with Tap Tap Revenge will recognize the style of play. This version includes smash hits from Lady Gaga including Bad Romance and Alejandro, including eight additional never-before-tapped Gaga tracks. Social Network connectivity through Facebook, Twitter, and email has also been introduced into this game. Pick it up for $4.99.
