Fullscreen.me is an interesting service that allows you to create iOS web apps that run in fullscreen mode. You can create little web apps through mobile Safari using Fullscreen.me’s website interface.

This is nice if you have a lot of websites that you visit on your iPhone, and you don’t want to have to navigate through Safari tabs to try to view them all. You can instead create little icons on your home screen of all your favorite sites… Read More

TekTrak Pro Review

Developer: TekTrak
Price: $4.99
Version Reviewed: 1.0
Device Reviewed On: iPhone

iPhone Integration Rating: 4.25 out of 5 stars
User Interface Rating: 4.25 out of 5 stars
Re-use Value Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

photo 13 200x300 TekTrak Pro Review$4.99 seems to be the default tipping point for iPhone app purchases. If it’s a really good app, most will spring for it, but others may still hold back hoping for a price drop or other adjustment.

Trust me on this: TekTrak Pro is worth every penny of its $4.99 price tag, and if you’re not a MobileMe subscriber, you need to download it now.

TekTrak Pro has a single purpose: to track your iPhone wherever it may be – lost, stolen or otherwise. It features a simple interface and is easy to manipulate and adjust to your preferences. All you have to do is install the app, sign up for an account at www.tektrak.com (which you can do within the app itself), then decide how often you want to have your iPhone send its location to the TekTrak servers. You can choose to turn on livetrack which will constantly track your phone’s position, but this is a way to quickly drain your battery. Instead, the folks at TekTrak suggest you turn on the check-in function, then set your phone to check in at anywhere from every ten minutes to every sixty minutes. Then all you have to do is keep the app running in the background and it will monitor your location and even allow you to remote ring your phone if you know it has to be somewhere nearby.

photo 33 200x300 TekTrak Pro ReviewOnce you discover your iPhone is lost, you simply have to login to the TekTrak website to locate your phone. From the web you can turn on the livetrack function so you can follow your phone in real time, instead of, for example, your pre-set check-ins every 30 minutes. Also, if you reboot your phone, it’s a relief to know that TekTrak will load in the background automatically and immediately sync your phone’s location with the TekTrak servers.

As to using TekTrak Pro to replace Apple’s “Find My iPhone” app, there’s a definite trade-off between functionality and price. TekTrak Pro is currently $4.99 for a lifetime use agreement – no subscription required – but it lacks several features available via Apple’s service, the most notable of which is the ability to remotely wipe your iPhone of all data if it is stolen. And, of course, Apple’s service comes bundled with the entire MobileMe suite of applications and features, so you are getting much more than iPhone tracking for $99.

But….if you want a quick, easy and very inexpensive way to keep tabs on your iPhone no matter where you are or where your phone may be, the TekTrak app and service is hard to beat.

RAGE

Released: 2010-11-18 :: Category: Games / Adventure

RAGE is the latest offering from John Carmack and id Software, the folks behind the incredibly popular Doom franchise. The game finds players in a post-apocalyptic game show where they must survive waves of mutants and scrounge up enough money to win their freedom. This should be a nice appetizer for the console version of the game, which is slated to be released in September of next year. By the time that edition arrives you should be well-versed in all the different ways to slay mutants.

SPLATTERHOUSE

iPhone App – Designed for the iPhone, compatible with the iPad
Released: 2010-11-18 :: Category: Games / Arcade

How far would you go to save the woman you loved? Would you put on a cursed mask and enter a mansion full of demons who hunger for your flesh and only exist to cause you pain and suffering? Or would you instead just remember that there are plenty of fish in the sea and she was kind of a nag anyway? If you chose the former then welcome to Splatterhouse, where senseless violence has never been so fulfilling. If you chose the latter then congratulations, you are a sane and reasonable human being.

Mushihimesama BUG PANIC

iPhone App – Designed for the iPhone, compatible with the iPad
Released: 2010-11-18 :: Category: Games / Arcade

First off, if you can pronounce the game’s name correctly, you win a dollar. Once you’ve struggled with typing the title into the App Store search (good luck AutoCorrect) you can gain access to a great new update on a classic arcade game. One warning though, you have to have the absolute latest model iPhone, iPod or iPad to play this game, otherwise it simply won’t work on your device. Thankfully a warning is posted prominently on the app description so hopefully there will be minimal cases of people downloading the game and then not being able to play it.

Amateur Surgeon 2 Review

Uncategorized | 50 views No Comments »

Developer: Adult Swim
Price: $0.99
Version Reviewed: 1.0

Graphics / Sound Rating: 4.8 out of 5 stars
Game Controls Rating: 4.45 out of 5 stars
Gameplay Rating: 4.6 out of 5 stars
Re-use / Replay Value Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Overall Rating: 4.46 out of 5 stars

Assuming that you’ve never played Amateur Surgeon, and there is no real need to have played it to catch on to the story in the sequel, you can walk in knowing that Amateur Surgeon 2 will be one of the most natural, funny, and polished games that you will play with in the App Store. Like many apps in the App Store, it is a port of a Flash classic, but this one actually feels more natural with the touch interface than with the standard mouse.

IMG 0829 300x200 Amateur Surgeon 2 ReviewThe games story takes place 50 years after the events of the original, with you once again taking control of Allen Probe. Unlike the plot in the original though, Allen is in dire straights, his hospitals were shut down by the president, his family left, and his skills are rusty. While the situation may be different, once the surgeries start, the game is much more fun than the original. The surgeries are all fun and extremely interactive, forcing you to use combinations of pizza cutters, lighters, chainsaws, stitches, and more to fix your patients’ unique problems, including some massive “cosmetic” implants and involve bug/animal extractions. None of the patients seem like fillers, all of them have humorous personalities and stories that move the game along nicely.

For the small amount of money that you will spend purchasing the game, there is really no better game out there in the App Store. Amateur Surgeon 2 certainly isn’t the longest game that you will run into in the App Store, but its gameplay experience is like a sweet morsel of wonderful app goodness. If you appreciate something a bit off the wall, you will certainly love Amateur Surgeon 2.
