One of the most anticipated announcements at this year’s MWC is the Xperia Play from Sony Ericsson otherwise known as the PlayStation Phone. While the company has yet to confirm this device’s existence it has been leaked more times than we can remember. Some major sites like Engadget have even managed to get their hands on a leaked prototype giving it the full hands-on treatment.
If you needed anymore confirmation of the Xperia Play’s existence, DROIDNYTT has gotten their hands on an official commercial for the device, shown above. Unfortunately, the commercial doesn’t do much else than show an Android mascot with thumbs creepily grafted on but it certainly gives a more official feel to all the leaks we’ve been seeing.
Be sure to stick around for Mobile World Congress this month where we will be covering the official unveiling of the Xperia Play.
One of the biggest announcements during this year’s CES was the HTC Thunderbolt. This Android 2.2 powered device features a 4.3-inch display, 1GHz Snapdragon Processor, 768MB of RAM, 8 megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and 720p video capture, 1.3 megapixel front facing camera and 8GB of internal storage. It is also one of the first smartphones to run on Verizon’s newly rolled out 4G LTE network.
Unfortunately if you’re looking to get your hands on this device you may be waiting quite some time, or no time at all as we don’t know exactly when it will be shipping. Luckily, the folks over at BGR have gotten their hands on a Best Buy periodical that clearly shows the HTC Thunderbolt as you can see above, with the words “coming soon”.
Coming how soon, is the question. We’ll keep you posted.
There are many apps that you can check for the weather like Google and the Weather Channel, but sometimes you just want a simple thermometer.
Thermo gives you that and more, and it will give you the temperature outside with the pretty blue for cold and electric red for hot. In addition to showing the present temperature, it has the temperature for yesterday.
This brings you “context”, allowing users to compare how much colder or hotter it is from the day before. This is a feature missing from many weather apps. You can check the current local temperature from across the world.
This App is free, but an Ad-Free version is available with purchase of $1.
News Corp announced not too long ago the release of The Daily – a magazine/newspaper made exclusively for the iPad. However, what happens when you want to read The Daily but don’t have an expensive iPad? Well then you can head over to a clever website made by a guy named Andy Baio. According to reports, this website indexes every article from The Daily and compiles it into a readable online periodical.
Of course, this may not be as savvy as reading The Daily on the iPad is, but if you’re really urning to get your fix but can’t justify a $499 device purchase for it, this may be your only way.
Check The Daily Indexed out here and you better do so fast as News Corp will probably shut this down faster than you can say The Daily.
4G enabled smartphones are all the rage with carriers across the country announcing their own offerings. However, seeing how many devices connected to these faster networks are typically high end those on a budget may not be able to get down on the fun. Luckily, Amazon has just posted a great deal today that has seen the price tag of the T-Mobile myTouch 4G drop down to just $30 with a qualifying 2-year contract.
While the myTouch 4G isn’t the most high end Android powered smartphone, you really can’t go wrong with a 4G device for just $30. As a quick refresher of the specs the myTouch 4G features Android ’Froyo’ 2.2.1, a 3.8-inch touchscreen, 1GHz processor, 768MB of RAM, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, VGA webcam, 4GB of built-in storage, and a microSD slot for additional storage. The typical Bluetooth, WiFi, accelerometer, proximity sensor, digital compass and the keli are all naturally included as well.
No word on how long Amazon will be holding this promotion for so if you’re looking to get down on it you better do so fast.
