Basically, BarCards is a card game that you can play in a bar.  Or anywhere for that matter.  Choose two or more people, enter your names, choose the number of cards per round and the level of difficulty, decide how much time is allotted for each card… then let the game begin!  Flip the card and, for example, “Find someone who has served in the armed forces.”  Ask around, and if you find someone within the time limit, press “success.”  If not, your turn is a “fail.”  The next question is for the next player: “Get someone to sing an Elvin song.”  You can see how this game works.  There are hundreds of questions!  The first person to “succeed” three times wins a drink—which is paid for by the losers!

This game is also great outside of bars.  It can be used to meet new people and have fun.  It’s a simple app, but it has such fun potential!  And at only $0.99, it’s an inexpensive way to have a lot of fun with friends… and you just might make a few new ones!

Cupcakes are the latest dessert trend. You can’t go wrong with the fluffy, decadent, fresh-baked and generously-iced treat, and it’s a sure way to get some smiles. However, I always reserved cupcakes for eating, and never thought that they would become a mechanism for describing. Cupcake Me! is a cute new app that satisfies the sweet tooth without the calories. Through the short questionnaires it provides, it assesses you and tells you what cupcake you are. Yes, it’s silly, but it’s a fun take on personality quizzes and maybe also a source of baking inspiration. Who else can say they are a Glitter Me cupcake (or, who else has even heard of such a thing..)? Smiles are served with this scrumptious app; there’s no better way than Cupcake Me! to get you in the mood for a sweet treat.

I don’t think anyone ever anticipated that injuries could be inflicted by simple finger movements. However, since texting took over the world, this has been an increasing possibility. Due to the fact that people look more at their phone and fingers than their immediate surroundings, the danger has emerged of text-related trauma — banging into poles, stepping on innocent bystanders, tripping on stairs, running over small children…using the phone has never been so hazardous. Thankfully, app developers have recognized this threat and have responded accordingly.

Type n Walk is one app that addresses the need for safe texting. By enabling the camera to display your surroundings on the screen as you type, you never have to look up from the phone to see what’s around you! You can allow yourself to become completely enmeshed in your message-laden world while also ensuring your and others’ well-being. Thank you, Type n Walk, for encouraging a level of safety that allows us to become as absorbed in our phones as we can. If only they could so something like this for cars…
