Screen shot 2010 09 12 at 7.24.54 PM Alibaba.com Plans To Promote Wholesale Products On eBay
Alibaba.com Ltd. CEO David Wei said that the company is working on a new business strategy where clients can sell wholesale products world-wide to online e-commerce services like eBay.com.

The Alibaba Group is in the process of integrating Vendio and Auctiva, two e-commerce services that they acquired last year. Both companies are creating and testing software for Alibaba.com for services that can be used on eBay and other e-commerce services.

eBay hasn’t exactly agreed to use Alibaba’s software in their marketplace, but Wei said that Alibaba’s ties to the American e-commerce company may be more of a direct partnership.

“We are competitors in some ways…But [we] have the same dream, same mission and same goal to help entrepreneurs,” stated Alibaba founder Jack Ma at a conference in China. “I believe one day we’ll work very close to each other.”

bloglines logo Bloglines Shutting Down On October 1
Bloglines, a property owned by IAC/InterActiveCorp (NASDAQ:IACI), is an RSS reader and aggregator service that launched in June 2003 by Mark Fletcher. In February 2005, he sold the service to Ask.com/InterActiveCorp. At the time, it was hosting over 200 million searchable blog articles. This past week, Ask.com announced that Bloglines would be shut down on October 1, 2010.

IAC bought Bloglines for about $10 million back in February 2005. Bloglines had struggled to gain additional traction after Google Reader had been launched.

Ask.com President Doug Leeds said that the reason behind shutting down Bloglines is due to the market changing. People are starting to prefer real-time news streams like Twitter. There has been a 20% decline in people using RSS feeds as a whole.
