There’s nothing comparable to off road racing against a clock in a side scrolling throwback with modern pizazz. Just push down the accelerator, gauge a few maniacal hills, and don’t let the clock run out.
Alpine Crawler Wild is the simplest, but sometimes the most rewarding, type of racer. Each level is a lumpy side scrolling joy-fest that has you trying to get to the end without blowing yourself up or going too slow to finish. The game uses real world physics, so when you fly over a bump at full throttle with a high speed Jeep-like vehicle, you may just end up upside down at the bottom of a revine. The goal is to skillfully use jumps to your advantage while not kamikaze diving off of cliffs only to slam face first into the other side of the canyon.
In this case, real physics doesn’t necessarily mean real world damgage, as your various off road vehicles can take quite a pounding. The only real way to instantly die is to crash head first off of a fairly large cliff. If you accidentally fall on your hood and end up upside down, you’ll be auto-flipped over with just a slight time deduction. All is well though in racing land, because the superhuman vehicles only add to the immense racing fun.
With great visuals, fun levels, and enough off-road vehicles to keep things fun, Alpine Crawler Wild will keep even the most hard core side scrolling racing fans entertained for quite some time. It isn’t perfect, particularly in the race organization (I really have no idea how the race order works), but it is quite fun nonetheless.
Ladies, we all know that periods can be an enormous hassle if you’re not keeping track—but then, keeping track is a hassle in itself. Period Tracker aims to make planning for your period much simpler, with a free menstrual calendar app that not only lets you track your period, but will also predict your next one.
The app includes a bevy of features, but simplicity is the rule. Inputting your “data” requires as much complexity as you want. When your period starts, you tap a single button; then, if you feel like it, you can add more information each day. The app can track everything from your symptoms (headaches? nausea? bloated?) to your mood. A freeform Notes box lets you record extra information as well. It also calculates how long it expects your period to be, and will predict when your next one will start.
And if you’re tracking your period out of more than curiosity, and are instead trying to get pregnant, Period Tracker also calculates when you’re likely to be ovulating or “fertile.” You can also note on which days you and your partner have been intimate, if that’s your goal.
Oh, and Period Tracker can be discreet, too—no obvious icon, and the option to password protect the app. Ve-ry nice. If you want to export the data, however (say for your next visit to the doctor) the app will allow you to send out your data via email.
So, if you’re a woman in search for a way to track your menstrual schedule, check out Period Tracker. It comes in both paid and free flavors, but the free version has all of the functionality described.

When the PS2 first launched there was a game all about creating beautiful fireworks displays. The game never did that well, but it was a nice change of pace. It has been several years since this game hit store shelves, but now a new game is looking to rekindle the art of fireworks displays. FireCraft attempts to take the splendor of fireworks and cram them onto your iOS device of choice. Unfortunately, most of the splendor was lost in translation.
The game of FireCraft is one of trying to assemble the best fireworks display possible. You start with one shell and a few types of display rounds. You can create ground displays or massive aerial presentations. It is up to you and your building abilities. Once you have a shell made, take it out and put on a firework display just by tapping a number to launch the shell. At the end of the show, you are awarded some money and the process repeats itself.
Money collected from shows is used to buy new ammo, new locations, and more slots for more types of fireworks. There is a fair amount of customization that can take place with each firework thanks to the abundance of packing materials. This maybe a pyro’s dream game.
Fireworks are marvelous feasts for the eyes to enjoy. This greatness was not translated very well in the presentation though. Fireworks feel very lackluster with explosions only pushing out various geometric shapes. Colors are dull, and the change in venues is rather boring. A lot of work needs to go into the visuals before this will keeps you mosquito free on July 4.
The biggest disappointment is in how the game runs. Stutters, lag, and poor framerate are the name of the game. Launching fireworks is unresponsive, shopping for new items is an exercise in patience, and just getting to a point to putting on a display is full of spits and stutters. This game would benefit greatly from some optimization.
FireCraft maybe a free game, but it is just not to a point that is worthy of your precious space. There is a good concept here; it is just not fully realized in this form. If you have some
