Most people are already familiar with the webcomic xkcd. Created by Randall Munroe, this webcomic makes simple, but intelligent statements about life, love, and science. Published every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, xkcd is one of the most popular and long-running webcomics out there.
The app for this webcomic has been around for awhile, but the HD version just came out last month. I found that the original version of the app to be much better functionally than the HD version. The original version of the app comes with a comprehensive list of comics. Once you’ve opened a comic, you can press and hold with one finger and you’ll get the alternative text for that comic. It also comes with a shuffle button at the bottom of each page. Additionally, you can save the comic as a photo on your iPhone or post it on Twitter.
The HD version was disappointing on several points. Firstly, it lacked a shuffle button. It’s a webcomic with a noncontinuous format, so a random button seems like a good idea to keep when moving it to HD. Secondly, instead of holding your finger to the screen to bring up the alternative text, the app makes you press a button on the bottom of the page. The problem i that the button is very small and I had a lot of trouble getting it to work with my iPod Touch. Finally, it’s a webcomic with stick figures. I don’t think HD is all that necessary for enjoying this webcomic so really this app is a waste of time. If you want an xkcd app, I highly recommend the regular app over the HD app.

Looking for something fun to kill some time? Xploder is a simple, quick, and entertaining game that can do just that. This app is a new take on chain reaction type games, where the point is to cause a bubble to explode and start a chain reaction of other bubbles exploding when they contact. It’s basic in structure and seems easy at first, but it becomes very challenging very fast.
This game is great on three levels. First it’s based on a very simple, yet challenging format of video games. Secondly it brings in some creative aspects I have not seen in other games like it, such as the musical effects that follow the exploions of each bubble. Finally, as one of the reviewers in the app store put it, this app is free and doesn’t need to be upgraded so there are no ads ruining your game. If you’re looking for a quick and intuitive game that is challenging and addictive, this is a game you want to check out.

The UpNext Cities app will make your life go a lot smoother, especially those like me who are incapable of following directions. The app is free and available for ipod touch, iphone and ipad. What makes UpNext a much better app than the alternatives in the same genre for example, google earth and APPCityLife is that it is the easiest of the three to use and offers up to date and accurate information. UpNext allows you to download cities that are then shown on a map that you can not only zoom in and out of but rotate and tilt. The rotate option is especially important for those who have a hard time following directions because you can view the city from whatever direction you are coming from. While it is important to use the tutorial to learn how the map functions, it is simple and easy to use and when you are finished you will know how to get the most out of the app.
Once you’ve downloaded the map of your chosen city, you can search the entire city for a restaurant, a store or a bar by typing the name of it in the search engine and the results will appear on the map. There is also the option of searching based on carefully chosen categories that are specific and user friendly. If you click on women’s clothing it will show you on the map one by one each result. Its an app that will take the stress away from visiting new cities and it might even let you discover something new about the city you thought you knew all about. Having your own account allows you to keep track of those discoveries by “marking” or “favouriting” the spots you don’t want to forget about. All in all, its fun to use ( its in 3D!), easy to use, helpful and free.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has ended the sales of the Kin mobile phone series only six weeks after launch. Andy Lees will be placing the whole Kin team into the Windows Phone 7 team so that there will be more man power in that group.
The reason why the Kin sales has been ended is because of low sales. Rumor had it that they only sold 500 Kins. Developing the Kin costed Microsoft millions of dollars too.
One of the reasons why the Kin did not do well is because Verizon priced the phone at a cost similar to smartphones. But the Kin is not a smartphone, its a phone that focuses on social networking.
And who can forget those terrible advertisements too? For the few of you that bought Kins, you will continue to get support from Microsoft. If you own a Kin, what do you think about this news? Leave a comment.
