Ugly MacBook Air thumb 550xauto 52085 280x111 Colorware doing their thing on the new MacBook AirWhat you are seeing here is the new MacBook Air with a ColorWare makeover.

We have reported on ColorWare before with the iPod 4 and the Colorware Grip for the iPad. Granted, it is going to cost you plenty, as the cheapest costs $1,850. Yes, that will more than double your price of the new MacBook Air.

You must really hate Apple white to lay down the money for one of these. I am assuming that it is worth the price.

According to its developers, Barrel is a jailbreak tweak that adds a 3D “cube” effect to your icon pages. The description surely fits the bill and doesn’t disappoint, but the price may prove to be a stumbling block.

Take a look inside as I take a video glimpse at this latest Jailbreak App. Then you can decide for yourself if this visual tweak is worth departing with your hard earned cash… Read More

There are a lot of photography apps on the App Store but I’m pretty confident that ProCamera is my new favourite. It offers an awful lot of features in order to enhance the iPhone’s camera to the next level.

media.2 200x300 ProCamera + GeoTagging ReviewAt first it looks a little scary, which is understandable when you consider the wealth of options. A click click of the user manual, though, and all makes perfect sense. It’s then apparent just how much you can do with the app. At its simplest, you can set ProCamera to anti-shake, instantly aiding anyone with a shaky hand or who happens to be in a less than ideal location for sudden jolts. Besides this though there are options to set the zoom to full-res zoom, thus enabling the app to offset the camera’s hardware. ensuring that using the full zoom produces a better photo than the regular camera app normally does. It’s not a magic solution. Using the maximum zoom still isn’t as perfect as a ‘real’ camera but using the zoom to halfway works quite well, certainly more so than using the Camera app.

Expert mode offers the ability to set exposure times and focus which you can lock in separately – a particularly vital feature for wannabe photographers. You can also adjust the white balance and colour temperature thus getting your photo just how you want it. Brightness, contrast and black and white settings can also be set just how you want.

Besides the still photographic tools at your disposal, you can also record video through the app which saves the effort of switching back to the built in camera app just for this one feature.

ProCamera also likes to educate, offering a tips and tricks section which teaches you such useful concepts as the rules of thirds and other bits and pieces that you wouldn’t think of normally. Also, as the name suggests, ProCamera includes Geotagging facilities which is certainly handy if you want to keep track of where and when you took your photos.

ProCamera offers a lot for the price. It offers both an excellent app for taking photos and videos, and a good app for editing these images directly. The photography market is competitive on the App Store but this is certainly worth a look.

PhotoFilter promises more than 50 professional digital image filters and effects. It keeps its promise, too: there’s certainly lots to do here. It truly feels as if you’ve got as many filter options as you would from a ‘proper’ PC based photography application.

photofilter11 200x300 PhotoFilter ReviewWithout meaning to rattle off a list of things, PhotoFilter enables you to do pretty much anything you can think of. From setting the contrast of an image automatically to reducing noise, sharpening the photo, blurring it, adjusting the colours. The list goes on. Besides such corrective measures, you can also add various effects such as charcoal, embossing and colour tinting. You can also add pop art effects or a poster style look.

It’s all really quite fun and satisfying to implement. In some cases it improves the look of the photo too, particularly in the case of the corrective filters. You can also crop, resize and rotate the images which is great if the photo you took isn’t quite perfectly aligned to start with.

Once you’ve finished with the image, you can save it to your album, email it or you can post it to Twitter or Facebook. All very useful options indeed.

PhotoFilter is a handy little app. Its only real flaw is that it doesn’t really offer anything extra compared to many other apps that do similar roles. It’d be nice if it also had basic camera facilities built in like other Photography apps but it’s still pretty respectable and the filters are certainly useful here.

The holiday shopping season is an incredibly stressful time. You find what you think is the perfect gift, but it seems a little expensive and you start to wonder if you couldn’t find it cheaper somewhere else. Of course, if you walk away now you may find out that the price is no better at other stores or, even worse, by the time you decide to buy everyone is sold out of the product you want. Amazon is trying to alleviate your fears at least a little by launching the new Price Check app, which should go a long way in helping shoppers find the best deals.

price check 208x300 Amazon Launches Price Check App Just In Time for Black FridayPrice Check allows users to scan a product’s barcode with their iPhone, or even take a picture of the item in question or say or type its name into Amazon’s database. The app then scours the Amazon Marketplace to find the item in question and provide a price list. If the online price is better than what you can find in-store then you can buy the item with one click and then go on your merry way.

The app is constantly being updated, but Amazon promises that there are already “millions of products” in the database so hopefully you should be able to find what you’re looking for. All searches are automatically sorted with the lowest prices at the top, as well as information on shipping costs or if the product qualifies for free shipping. Is it handy? You bet it is.

Apps like these also force physical stores to be very upfront and honest about their prices. While department stores may claim that sweater or camera is “on sale,” a quick perusal of Price Check will let you know if the price being offered is truly a good deal or if the store is just deflating the price of an outrageous markup. For the informed shopper, the power is now in your hands.
