It’s always good when you can find a good free game on iOS or any mobile platform. There are a lot of them, and many make their profits due to in-App purchases.
This was certainly the case for Smurf Village, an App that is creating a lot of controversy due to its in-App purchases. Apparently, a cart full of Smurfberries costs $60.
Since all that is required of an iTunes user is a username, password, and credit card, it is very easy for a kid to make many costly in App purchases, as these things are still valid within 15 minutes after authorization. As a result, parents are getting iTunes bills over $100 dollars for their kids Smurfberry cart purchases.
I think this is a lesson in letting your kid play with your iDevice. I know the iPhone is the toddler toy of choice, and I have always been worried that my three-year-old son would make some expensive purchases.
