ringjam iphone 200x300 Get Your Media Messaging Groove On with RingJamiPhone enthusiasts with limited texting plans may get a kick out of RingJam, a free multi-media texting app from Emotive Communications. RingJam lets users quickly send pictures, audio and music previews to their friends and contacts. There are also options to send invites, create polls, and ask for quick responses like “call me” or “yes/no/maybe” answers to quick questions.

Luckily, RingJam is free to download and “free” to use because it would be absurd to pay for it. Not that it doesn’t do all the things it says it will, but because there are plenty of other options for doing the same things. Yet by using RingJam, the ability to send and receive media messages is all in one place and over a Wi-Fi connection, it doesn’t count against texting or data limitations.(…)

Switching from hard cover books to ebooks means more than just having to re-buy your entire collection of Nancy Drew mystery novels. For many bibliophiles it feels like the end of an era. Reading may be considered a brainy activity, but it’s also a tangible experience—from the feel of the paper and the weight in your hand to that distinctive smell that comes as our favorite books age. The move to digital means letting go of a big part of what makes books books.

There is a need to be filled here, and iPad case makers have carved out a nice niche with book-quality cases that look and feel just like the real thing. Here are a few of our favorite book-style iPad cases that will make you happy to be a bookworm. (…)

If you’ve been holding off on purchasing a particular EA Game from the App Store, now is the time to bite. Many of the publisher’s popular titles have nosedived to a mere $0.99 cents, and folks as you know, it doesn’t get any cheaper than that.

We aren’t just talking about low-budget titles either. Nope, games like Tetris, Mirror’s Edge, and The Sims 3 have all hit the price tag chopping block. Better head over to EA’s section of the App Store now, we’re sure this won’t last long.

One of the tougher duties of a good parent is keeping track of all the ratings info on the games your kids want to buy. Now the ESRB, the body which rates all console and PC video games in the US, is making the process a bit easier for iPhone users. The newly released ESRB app allows users to take a picture of a game box and instantly have all the info about said game pulled up onscreen.

esrb 200x300 ESRB Unveils iPhone AppThe new app will compare images of game boxes to those stored in its database and instantly pull up both the game’s letter rating as well as a “ratings summary” which will spell out exactly why Death Dealers 2: More Death than Ever was rated M for Mature (spoiler alert: there’s a whole lot of killing). This puts all the information right at the consumers fingertips on-demand, so before you pull the trigger to buy a new game for friends or loved ones you’ll know exactly what you’re getting into.

While the app requires a camera in order to search by photo, iPod and iPad users aren’t left out in the cold, as you also have the option to search by game title. You can also filter by platform, so if you only want to know about the Xbox 360 or PS3 version of a game it’s nice and easy to set.

We’re very happy to see this app out in the wild, as the knowledge it provides will be a great help to parents and relatives who want to make responsible decisions before they buy a video game. We’re all about informing and empowering consumers, and now ignorance will no longer be an excuse for buying games inappropriate for younger players. This is good for the industry, good for consumers and just all around a great thing for all parties involved.
