Nokia is the world’s leading OEM handset manufacturer but that doesn’t mean they haven’t been without much competition from other big players on the market namely Google and Apple. While there isn’t really a single thing you can put your finger on that leads to Nokia’s fall from grace, their dated Symbian platform is definitely at the forefront.
To combat this, Nokia was rumored to be in talks with various companies to bring a third-party mobile platform into the fray. Android, of course, was one of these rumored platforms but Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 seemed much more likely. Well, today, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop came forth to make the partnership official telling us that Microsoft properties such as Windows Phone 7, Bing, Xbox Live and Office will all be making the jump to Nokia hardware.
Unfortunately there was no hardware demoed that would be running these Microsoft properties so we’ll have to stay tuned to see how things pan out.
