HP is a leading manufacturer of many different products including printers and laptops but thanks to their buy-out of Palm last year they are now a major player in the smartphone world. While the Palm Pre and Palm Pixi may not have been smash hits critics across the board continue to applaud the underlying webOS for its easy of use which provides an overall pleasant experience. However, while the above mentioned devices have happily been running webOS for some time we’ve yet to see other devices powered by the highly sought after platform hit the streets.
One such application of the platform that many say would peak consumer interest is the tablet form factor. Unfortunately, up until now we haven’t really gotten official word as to when we would be seeing an HP manufacturers tablet running webOS. What we did know, however, is the fact that on February 9th HP will be taking center stage to make an announcement focusing entirely on the webOS platform.
Well, as if you needed any more confirmation that HP would be talking about tablets at this conference, CNBC recently sad down with the EVP of HP’s Personal Devices Group, Todd Bradley, to discuss the company’s products. Arguably the most intriguing question was when the interviewer asked Bradley how HP”s tablet offerings would differentiate from the iPad to which he responded ”you and I will talk about that on the 9th”. So, while he didn’t actually say tablets would be the announcement, he alluded to it pretty openly.
Stay tuned for February 9th where we’ll tell you all about HP’s special webOS announcement.
We’ve included a view of the interview for your viewing pleasure after the break.
ViewSonic has several different products on the market with their ViewPad Android tablet line up causing quite a bit of buzz. While the 4- and 10-inch models have yet to hit the streets, the company already has a ViewPad 7 7-inch tablet on the market retailing for around $429. Negative remarks regarding this device have generally been kept to a minimum but it’s by no means a game changer. However, according to the folks over at CarryPad, ViewSonic may be looking to make another attempt at producing a 7-inch Android powered tablet.
During CES, the above tablet was spotted at the Zinio boot – a company who specializes in digitizing magazines and pushes them to the masses. There’s no word as to what this tablet will be called or if it will ever make its way to the market but this is certainly no ViewPad 7 baring a close resemblance to the much talked about Samsung Galaxy Tab.
So, will we soon hear na announcement out of ViewSonic regarding a new 7-inch Android powered tablet? Our best guess says no but then again, anything can happen.
Dell is no stranger to electronics as they have been one of the worlds leading computer manufacturers for many years. However, in the past few years Dell has decided to take the mobile world by storm releasing big name devices like the 5-inch Dell Streak 5 Android powered tablet/smartphone hybrid. While the Dell Streak 5 has been recieved generally well many have said it’s far too small to be considered an actual tablet.
Well, Dell has listened and delivered taking cetner stage during this year’s CES to show off the 7-inch Dell Streak 7 Android powered tablet. This tablet is to feature things like HSPA+ connectivity that will give it an edge over the previous generation Streak.
If you’re a complete fanatic for all things Streak you’ll be happy to hear that T-Mobile has just recently posted the official listing for the Dell Streak 7 as you can see from the above screen shot. Of course it doesn’t tell us much we don’t know but it does let users sign up to know when the device will be released which is listed as “in the coming weeks”.
Motorola has been a big name in the mobile world for quite some time with their RAZR flip phone becoming one of the most popular handsets of all time. Now that they’ve successfully made the switch to Android with high powered devices like the DROID X and DROID 2 it’s time for them to make the leap once again to the tablet form factor. If you’ve been paying attention during this year’s CES, you’ll know that the company is set to launch a tablet dubbed the Motorola XOOM powered by the Android Honeycomb platform.
This device is the tablet that is expected to give the Apple iPad a much needed run for its money but many have wondered if Android tablets will gain the recognition they deserve. According to a report stemming from Digitimes, Motorola is expected to ship 800,000 XOOM tablets in Q1 2011 alone.
Well, I think we all know what the big news is today with the Verizon iPhone. Heck, my wife told me that breaking news before I heard about it. Still, I am recovering from CES 2011, and I have a lot of stuff that I still need to cover.
For example, the Cinepad Android Tablet from Aluratek, one of eighty tablets that were on display at CES 2011 this year. The CinePad has a 10.1 Capacitive TFT LCD with 1024 x 600, and I’m not certain what version of Android it will be released with.
It also features Adobe Flash Lite, a High Definition multi-media player, Instant Messaging, email, Wi-Fi, screen rotation support for portrait and landscape mode, microSD slot, internal lithium-ion polymer battery, battery level indicator, built-in MP3 player, plus support for BMP, JPG, and GIF picture formats.
I don’t have a price or release date, but I would certain like one. The price, release date, and the tablet, I mean.
