This is a pretty interesting app/game designed to be one of those singing games that you see on the console.

I have no idea if there are other apps like this, but I think that out of all bands you could devote one to, they picked ABBA. I guess someone really likes that Meryl Streep/Pierce Brosnan movie.

You should be able to get it on the iTunes store for about $2.99.

Have you had your eye on a copy of Chu Chu Rocket but couldn’t justify the $4.99 price tag? If so then we’ve got good news, as Sega has announced they’re dropping the price of several of the company’s most popular games. This isn’t just a temporary reprieve either, as all price cuts are permanent. Here’s the full list:

sonic 300x200 Sega Offering Permanent Price CutsChuChu Rocket: $4.99 $2.99
ChuChu Rocket HD: $6.99 $4.99
Ecco the Dolphin: $2.99 $0.99
Golden Axe: $2.99 $0.99
Gunstar Heroes: $4.99 $2.99
Phantasy Star II: $4.99 $2.99
Shining Force: $2.99 $0.99
Super Monkey Ball 2: $5.99 $2.99
Super Monkey Ball 2 Sakura Edition: $7.99 $4.99
Sonic The Hedgehog 1: $5.99 $4.99
Sonic The Hedgehog 2: $5.99 $4.99
Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode 1: $9.99 $6.99
Streets of Rage: $2.99 $0.99

A quick note here, most of the price cuts apply to the iPhone/iPod Touch version of the games, so keep that in mind. The only native iPad apps listed in the reduction are Chu Chu Rocket HD and Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition.

Hooray for cheap games! It’s also nice to see that most of the price cuts are rather substantive, and that Sega isn’t just taking 50 cents off the price and asking us to get excited. Sure, Sonic 1 and 2 are only discounted by $1, but most of the other titles are at least half off. Furthermore, since these are permanent price cuts you can space out your purchases and grab most if not all of the games rather than being rushed and forced to only pick one or two to get in before the sale ends.

Of course, the flip side to all this excitement is the fact that the price reductions really just bring the games in line with what users expect to pay for apps and the cost of entry is really no lower than what one would find on a lot of other quality titles. So while we applaud Sega for bringing the prices down to a more reasonable level, maybe they should have started here in the first place.

AppDream0 Looking for Free Apps? The Daily App Dream Has Your BackIf there is one thing that everyone loves, it is paying nothing still receiving something awesome in return.  Here and there we have seen scattered sales pop up across the App Store, but the problem has always been trying to pinpoint when and where such sales would occur.  Luckily for all of us, the Daily App Dream has now opened its doors and is at your service.

Both a website and an app itself, the Daily App Dream is your new source of everything free in the App Store.  The developers have already committed to promoting up to three free releases every single day, with at least one freebie scheduled for every approaching number on the calendar.  Here are a few of the key features of the app itself:

  • AppDream1 Looking for Free Apps? The Daily App Dream Has Your BackGet access to new free games and apps every day!
  • Jump straight to the “Write a review” page of any of the apps and quickly give developers feedback!
  • Where possible, read critics reviews of the App’s within the App itself from major review sites.
  • Link to facebook and let your friends know about the free games on offer each day so that they don’t miss out!
  • Let us know about the Apps you Dream of being FREE so we can see if we can make your dream come true!
  • Opt-In to push notifications so we can let you know about any major games going free that you cant afford to miss out on getting!

Everything about this idea just seems like a brilliant plan for everyone involved.  First off, it costs developers absolutely nothing to use the service, and it will help provide them with some much needed exposure.  Secondly, the people running the site get the chance to give back to iOS consumers everywhere.

If you are not on the bandwagon already, what are you waiting for?  When it comes to free apps, you have literally NOTHING to lose.

The Witcher is an incredibly popular PC RPG franchise, and now Chillingo is hoping to bring that popularity to iOS. The company has announced a partnership with developer one2tribe which will see The Witcher Versus landing on the App Store in the near future. The game will be based on the browser-based title of the same name which was also developed by one2tribe.

witcher vs 300x232 The Witcher Versus Coming Soon to App StoreAccording the the press release, players can plan to “Choose between the classes of Witcher, Sorceress or Frightener and jump right into the fray of battle. Fight, gain experience and develop your skills against other players. Embark on quests to prove bravery and battle enemies to unlock new weapons, amulets, and magical items. Players can compete against others playing the online browser and WAP versions of the game for an unparalleled MMO dueling experience.”

“The Witcher franchise is one of the industry’s most popular PC RPG games and we are proud to collaborate with one2tribe to bring this new version of the browser-based MMO dueling title to the iPhone and iPod touch,” said Joe Wee, Co-General Manager of Chillingo. “We aim to provide consumers with a variety of game genres to choose from and The Witcher: Versus shines as one of our best MMO titles to date.”

Neither Chillingo nor one2tribe have offered any details on pricing or a potential release date, and they also haven’t stated if there are any plans to create an iPad version of the game. We’ll make sure to keep an eye out for any new info as it becomes available.

The announcement should be welcome news to iPhone and iPod owners at the least, because if the same level of care goes into creating the mobile version as it does the computer and browser-based editions of the game then we’re in for a real treat. This is definitely a title to keep on your radar moving forward.

The latest entrant to burst onto the iPhone’s puzzle scene is Kahoots, a charming little puzzle platformer that works hard in the hopes of being noticed in a crowded market. Though the game offers immense amounts of challenge and tricky level design which will challenge even the most hardened puzzler, the overly-cutesy art direction and confusing level layout may be enough to turn off some players.

kahoots1 300x200 Kahoots ReviewKahoots is yet another “get your character to the exit while avoiding certain death” games, but the hook is players must constantly shift the environment to deliver their little blue friend to safety. Most squares on the floor are just standard floor tiles, but sometimes you can find a spring box which will catapult the Kahoot or a trapdoor that will allow you to duck out of harm’s way. Also, later stages introduce the Cardborgs, Kahoot-eating baddies who must be kept away from your character, but which are also necessary to breaking down cardboard barriers that block progress. All these mechanics, coupled with the added challenge of grabbing each level’s bonus cupcake, make Kahoots one of the more challenging entrants in the genre.

Looking at the game you wouldn’t think it’s a hardened puzzler though, as the cutesy art direction screams kid’s game rather than supreme challenge. New level mechanics are sung to players via the tutorial Pegbeast, and the cotton candy world the Kahoots exist in look like they feel out of a six-year-old girl’s doodles. The overall environment is painfully saccharine, standing starkly at odds with the challenging nature of the levels. The two extremes make it hard to tell if this is a game aimed at really smart elementary school students or overly ironic hipster adults.

Kahoots has been around for a while both on the PC and the PSP as a Mini, so there’s a decent chance if you’re a puzzle fan that you’ve played it before. If so then you’re getting the same experience on iOS, but with OpenFeint leaderboards and therefore the added benefit of multiplayer challenges. If you can get past (or even embrace) how annoyingly adorable the game is then you’ll likely find a fulfilling challenge, but that can be a rather big leap to make.
