Google is one of the world’s largest tech companies with their products reaching into several different niches. While their search and email offerings are quite popular, their Android mobile operating system is one of their most critically acclaimed products to date. However, while we hear quite a bit about Android, Google engineers have been hard at work on ChromeOS – an actual notebook/desktop operating system that would compete with behemoths like Microsoft’s Windows and Apple’s OS X.
Unfortunately, while ChromeOS has been in the pipeline for quite some time, we have yet to see a product powered by the platform hit the streets. Well, reports have surfaced today that says Google will actually be headlining the ChromeOS hardware brigade and plan to launch their own netbook powered by the platform on December 7th at a currently unannounced event.
Of course, this could all just be baseless rumors so until Google comes forth to official speak of the matter we’re going to take it with a grain of salt.

We just recently told you that Google would be holding a Chrome event come December 7th where many assumed they would be launching a netbook powered by the platform. However, at the time of that posting the event was only a rumor and Google had not said anything of the matter. Now, it seems that Google has officially come forth to let us know that they will in fact be holding a Chrome themed event come December 7th.
Of course, what exactly they will announce hasn’t been made official but we can only assume it will not only be the ChromeOS branded netbook, but also a Chrome app store.
We’ll be covering the event come December 7th so be sure to check back around then.

Toshiba has been happily making various electronics like HDTVs and laptop computers for quite some time. While they do not have a smartphone out that can compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S or HTC EVO 4G, they have been making their mark on other industries. One such product that Toshiba has been known to make quite well are netbooks. Today, the company has announced two new netbooks dubbed the NB500 and NB520.
The Toshiba NB500 netbook features a 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 LED backlit display, an Intel Atom N455 procesoor, 2GB of DDR3 RAM, 250GB HDD and a 10-hour battery. The Toshiba NB520, on the other hand, features the same specs but gets built in Harman Kardon speakers for top notch sound quality in addition to a beefed up Intel Atom N550 processor.
Toshiba has been quite about the price and release date of the NB500 and NB520 netbooks but they assure us they will both be shipping in Q1 2011 which means it won’t be long until we can get our hands on these devices.

With all of the hype surrounding tablets it’s almost getting hard not to forget about netbooks. However, for some users (enterprising ones in particular) a tablet just won’t substititue for a full fledged mini laptop. Luckily, hardware manufacters relaize this and have not abandoned the netbook form factor just yet.
In fact just today HP has come forth to show off the Mini 1103 business minded netbook. This 10.1-inch netbook comes complete with an Intel Atom N455 or N475 processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 3 or 6 cell battery. In terms of operating systems you have Windows 7 Starter, FreeDOS OS and SUSE Linux sto choose from.
While none of these hardware features are exactly ground breaking the Mini 1103 does clock in at just $299 making it the perfect business oriented netbook.
