This morning, Apple announced the stats for the Mac App Store’s opening day—drum roll please—over one million apps were downloaded in the first day.

“We’re amazed at the incredible response the Mac App Store is getting,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Developers have done a great job bringing apps to the store and users are loving how easy and fun the Mac App Store is.”

With more than 1,000 free and paid apps, the Mac App Store is an attempt to recreate the App Store experience for personal computers.

Install0us 4 Installous Gets A Major Update

Infamous jailbreak application Installous just had a major update and now looks better than it ever did. For those of you who don’t know, Installous is an application that lets you download cracked apps on your iPhone. In short, it’s like the App Store for cracked apps.

I have to admit that the app has been beautifully designed. It looks great and seems to work as advertised. This being said, we at iDB strongly disapprove of anything related to pirating apps…

I’m not into downloading cracked applications. I can afford to spend $.99 on Angry Birds or any other app, so that’s not really an issue. I have to admit though that I’ve used Installous before while traveling internationally. That’s something that is often disregarded, but depending on where you are in the world, you might not be able to download certain applications from the App Store.

When we were in Thailand last year for example, my lovely fiancee’s iPod Touch would not connect to the US iTunes Store, no matter what. The only way for her to download applications was to get them via Installous. Back in the US, I got her the new iPhone 4 and she legally downloaded copies of the apps she wasn’t able to get installed during our trip.

Something tells me there are a lot of you out there who use Installous. If so, would you leave a comment and explain why you use it?

Question Mark App A Jailbreak App Like This Would Keep the Lines of Communication Open

There are some many wonderful jailbreak apps and tweaks that I use on a daily basis, that I truly feel lost when I’m stuck with a stock iPhone.

Being without apps like SBSettings, BiteSMS, and ActionMenu truly makes using the iPhone less of an experience. In fact, I’d much rather be stuck with less Apple features if that means I can stay jailbroken, hence I always wait until there’s a jailbreak solution prior to upgrading my firmware.

Oddly enough though, there is one significant jailbreak app that hasn’t truly been attempted, and if it has, I surely haven’t been aware of it. Why we don’t have an app like this, is still anyone’s guess, but it’s safe to say that it would change the way we communicate via our iPhones…

The app that I’m looking for isn’t anything fancy, and it isn’t anything we’ve yet to see in the world of computers. In fact, every desktop and laptop computer that we use today, has this simple, yet necessary feature.

The app I’m referring to is this:

The Startup App

Yes, The Startup App. Surprised? Confused? Disappointed? Let me explain.

What I have in mind is something like this; an app with a layout similar to 3G Unrestrictor or Backgrounder, where you can select from your entire list of installed apps. The apps you select would thus be started automatically anytime your reboot or respring your iPhone.

3G Unrestrictor Menu e1294414901983 A Jailbreak App Like This Would Keep the Lines of Communication Open

Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? As I stated, the same thing happens today when you reboot your laptop or desktop pc, so why not the iPhone?

Why We Need It

Well, we’ve gone this long without a startup app, so I guess we don’t need it, but it would make our lives a whole lot easier. In fact, I think that it could change the way we communicate forever, because it would ensure that we’re always available over an unlimited range of social apps.

For instance, take Skype for example. Skype just recently updated their iPhone app to support video chat over 3G and Wifi, and it works great. The only problem with Skype is that if you reboot or respring, and you forget to launch the app again, guess what? You’re offline, and no one can contact you.

This doesn’t bode well for totally changing the way we communicate. There should be an option to auto start Skype, and other social apps that keep us connected to our friends and family.

Why A Jailbreak App is the Solution

It’s obvious that the jailbreak community is likely our only hope for bringing on this needed change, because I just don’t see Apple budging on this subject, and I doubt they ever will.

The talking heads at Cupertino would reactively bring up the subject of battery life, but that’s not the issue here; the issue is using our iPhones in the way that we want to use them.

For that reason, the jailbreak community’s wonderful development circle is what’s needed in order to bring forth such an awesome app. I’d happily pay $10 for such an app, and I’m sure countless others would be enthused to pony up the same.

What You Can Do

If you feel as strongly as I do about this subject, then keep talking, don’t let it die. Let’s make it apparent that this is something we need. You can do that by commenting below, tweeting it, posting in forums, etc.

Apple Exec Earnings 2010 I Made More Money Than Steve Jobs Last Year

Yes, I made more money than Steve Jobs in 2010. Can you believe that? Chances are, if you worked for a minute or so in 2010, you too made more money than Apple’s CEO. That’s because Steve-o took a symbolic one-dollar salary for the year that ended.

This being said, don’t feel bad for Mr Jobs because the total value of his Apple shares is worth over 1.8 billion dollars. Not bad, huh?

The company regulatory SEC filing shows more, courtesy of 9 to 5 Mac:

The Company believes Mr. Jobs’s level of stock ownership significantly aligns his interests with shareholders’ interests; his total compensation consists of a salary of $1 per year.

$248,000 was reimbursed for company travel on the JobsMobile (the slightly-aging $90m Gulfstream V jet he was given in the last Century).

The company’s net income jumped 70 percent in fiscal 2010 to $14 billion, on revenue of $65.2 billion, an increase of 52 percent from a year earlier.

Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, Timothy Cook, took salary of $800,000 in 2010 along with a $5 million bonus and $52.3 million worth of stock awards.

Cook’s compensation included $40,001 for accrued and unused vacation.(Cook works pretty hard too).

So, did you make more than Steve Jobs too?

Verizon iPhone to Be Announced Next Tuesday?

Here it is folks. It appears I was wrong when I predicted there wouldn’t be a Verizon iPhone this year as many tech writers/bloggers are receiving a mysterious invitation to an event that’s going to happen on 1.1.11.

It’s no surprise that we didn’t get invited but some high profile Apple bloggers were. MG Siegler of TechCrunch for example, got a personal invite. Siegler confirms that it is the first time Verizon sends him an invite directly. Other Apple-related experts claim they received a similar invitation…

We’re not the only one not being invited. Gizmodo, who has a pretty good relationship with Verizon didn’t get the invite. That’s another clue.

A January 11th announcement would work perfectly with the rumored launch of the Verizon iPhone on February 3rd.

At this point, I’m so over all these Verizon iPhone rumors that I just hope these are true. Let’s get it over with already!
