We’ve barely had time to get to know the newly released iOS 4.2, and there are already rumors circulating that iOS 4.3 will be released as soon as next month. In particular, two sources have weighed in on a possible iOS 4.3 release for the not so distant future.
The rumor mill began with some words from John Gruber about Rupert Murdoch’s new, mobile-centric newspaper called “The Daily.” Apparently, Murdoch has been forming a mobile-specific news publication under the umbrella of News Corp. This new publication is rumored to deliver news through a subscription system in Apple’s App Store…

With the iPhone 4, Apple introduced the amazing Retina Display which gives us 4 times more pixels on the same screen size. Many app developers have already optimized their applications, including the icon, for the Retina Display, but there are still a few devs that are late to the game.
We already saw how to convert old app icons to Retina Display icons, but the process wasn’t very straightforward. There is now an easier way to do all that thanks to a new jailbreak app… Read More

Apple’s iPad may be the hottest tablet on the market but that doesn’t mean that’s going to make it any cheaper. In fact, starting at $499, the iPad is more expensive than many full fledged laptop computers. Luckily, some companies have managed to cut a deal here and there and offer the iPad for less than its MSRP.
One such company by the name of Evolyte has managed to put the 32GB WiFi iPad up for $100 off its MSRP bringing the price tag down for $499. If you’re looking to get down on this deal, make note that it’s for a limited time only and at the time of the posting 12/50 iPads have sold out.
On another note, if you’re not familiar with Evolyte they are described as a cross between Groupon and woot.com. If you’ve got the time you should definitely check them out as they are sure to have some great deals leading into this holiday season.

While Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS are currently leading the pack, other companies have perfectly capable mobile platforms looking to compete with these two behemoths. While Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 platform has been out for a while it’s far too early to see if it will be a success or not. Palm’s webOS, on the other hand, has been viewed by some as one of the best platforms on the market but due to poor marketing it has failed to really catch on.
Luckily, with HP’s buyout of Palm many have wondered if webOS’s golden days are soon to come. In the meantime, webOS users may be a bit uneasy to discover that security experts over at SecTheory have uncovered several pretty serious flaws within webOS. Apparently, these security holes rely on the fact that the development of webOS has paired JavaScript closely with the platform’s core system functions. Utilizing these security holes, SecTheory has discovered that malicious users are able to run arbitrary code.
While Palm is most likely already hard at work fixing these errors, it makes us wonder – how long will it take before mobile phones require antivirus software? I’m sure at least a few individuals are working on viruses targeting these smartphones but let’s hope not.

While Google launched the Android Market after Apple’s App Store opened its doors, the open source mobile application store is steadily gaining speed. One of the biggest victories for the platform was when Rovio decided to port their ever so popular Angry Birds game to Android. Of course, it was most likely a bigger win for Rovio as it was just announced today that the game has already been downloaded 7 million times.
However, that’s not the only announcement we’re here to make. Rovio has also confirmed that they are currently hard at work on a Christmas edition of the game and plan to release it sometime next month. When exactly they will release this special edition Angry Birds is anyone’s guess but rumor has it that day will fall right on December 11th.
Once the Christmas edition is released it will mark the second special edition Angry Birds that has been released with the first being for Halloween. This begs the question of which holidays Rovio will choose to capitalize on with new versions of the game. Valentine’s Day Angry Birds, anyone?
