Appigo Todo 4 300x260 Todo 4 Makes Task Management Even EasierTodo, from Appigo, has long been one of the best task management apps on the iPhone, and now the iPad. Back in Jan, 2009, when we did the original review, we touted its streamlined interface and its free online syncing as the features that put the app above the rest, but the new Todo 4 adds even more to the already impressive app.

The major update for Todo 4 is its implementation of iOS4 features. With the new update, users can take calls or switch to other apps during synchronization, and can use local notifications to continuously update the icons badge so you know exactly how much you have to get done. The iPhone 4 version (and soon the iPad version) also uses local notifications to remind you of tasks, so you’ll get what you need to know regardless of network connectivity.

Other features include:

  • Passcode locking throughout the app.
  • Synching with the brand new Todo Online system ($19.99/yr.), which syncs your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and computers together via wifi or 3G.
  • Updates to Appigio Sync (free), allowing for syncing with iCal and Outlook.
  • “Appigo has taken Todo 4 to a new level that is far beyond other to-do list apps available on the iPhone or iPad,” said Calvin Gaisford, Appigo’s CEO. “With the amazing features of iOS 4, monitoring and completing tasks during the day is now possible even when Todo isn’t running.”

Be sure to download the new update today, and if you don’t have Todo yet, now would be a great time to hop on board. It’ll cost you less than your venti mocha and it’ll be far more useful.

Using apps to take panoramic shots is pretty fun, but stitching together photos is a tedious process. You have to sit there and take a bunch of pictures, make sure they all turn out right, and then wait for them to render. Being the impatient person that I am, I decided to give 360 Panorama a whirl.

IMG 0229 300x300 360 Panorama Review360 Panorama does things a bit different than the other panoramic photo apps on the market. Instead of stitching photos to make a nice picture, this app seems to use video to put them together. All you have to do is aim the camera at a space and then move the camera around the original image. The app, all on its own, takes the resulting image and makes is a panoramic shot. Best of all, if you want to get really wacky you can make your 360 degree image a stereographic panorama, making the picture seem to loop around in a circle.

The only downside of the app is that the resulting images don’t come together as professionally as other panorama apps. They tend to have wobbly and lumpy borders, even with the most still of hands. I set my iPhone on a desk and slowly spun it around and I still got the jitters in my picture.

Still, though, even with the not so perfect images, the app was a joy to use. I found myself making picture after picture (with my pictures heavily weighted towards the stereographic variety), not caring if the resulting pictures were perfect or not.

Maybe 360 Panorama isn’t the most perfect panoramic photo app, but it’s by far the most fun to use. I have a feeling that by the end of 2010, most of the other apps of this kind will have been deleted from my camera and forgotten about, but 360 Panorama may just find a permanent spot in my little photo folder.

Scouting out your next photo is already more work than performing a root canal on a hyperactive child. Looking for vantage points, judging the sun, or moon, taking test shots, and so much more go into a good planning session. All this work often leads to lugging backbreaking equipment around just for a simple test shot. iOS has changed the face of test shooting and planning by margins that my back is very thankful for.

    Notebooks be gone!
I have an over abundance of Moleskines full of notes, drawings, doodles, and ideas. These have traveled with me every place I run off to, including the local tea house. The introduction of the iPad has drastically changed my dependence on the tried and true Moleskine and pen. Now, apps like Penultimate allow me to draw out my ideas on my iPad. I can quickly sketch out ideas in a myriad of colors without the need of a big box of colored pencils. I can use Pages, iA Writer, or even Documents To Go to jot down all my notes, thoughts, and contemplations. My camera bag no longer rattles due to pens, pencils, or notebooks jostling around. iOS has taken several tools, digitized them, put them into an easy to use device, and made my life so much easier.

Let the camera stay in the car.
Now, every photographer knows you never travel without a camera. Heck, I lug my D90 just about everywhere I go. Yet, there are times it just does not work to my advantage to haul a camera, tripod, lens, notebooks, pens, and camera bag on a scouting trip. Sometimes I just want to hike in, snag a few quick shots, get to the coffee house, and collect my thoughts on the potential shoot ahead of me. The iPhone camera allows me to leave all the bulky equipment in the car while I take a few light test shots and start contemplating how I want to compose my photographic session.

I can then take these shots and upload them to my Flickr page via FlickStackr, or push them to my Facebook page for everyone to see. I can even do some editing on these photos thanks to Filterstorm. All these tools add up to leaving the heavy gear at home and using my iPhone and iPad for all my scouting missions. How do you use your iDevice for you planning missions?

Panoramatic 360 is a relatively easy to use panoramic picture app that stitches together pictures to create a seamless panoramic or 360 degree panoramic picture.

IMG 02251 300x200 Panoramatic 360 ReviewUsing the app is a breeze. Just take a picture to start your panorama, then move your camera to right to continue the image. As a guide, the app gives you a shadow image on the left side of the screen for you to match your image to, something that saves people like me from over-shooting my target. There is also an on-screen level so you don’t go totally bonkers trying to keep your hand still. Once you are done, you are given a few options to change the output quality and the rendering accuracy, as well as basic things like sliders for contrast and brightness.

The final image comes out quite clean, not showing any sort of image steadying errors that may have occurred due to shaky hands. Admittedly, my panoramic picture came out a bit better than my 360 picture, but I attribute the issues to trying too hard to match edges together. Instead of a smooth 360 image, I got a slightly disorienting picture that belonged in a Tim Burton film.

The only issue I had, and this is probably more of an iPhone camera flaw than anything, was with the lighting. In an outdoor picture, Panoramatic works perfectly, but in an indoor setting, the iPhone camera kept auto-adjusting the light balance, making the picture sections by windows abnormally dark.

All in all, Panoramatic is an excellent app for making panoramic pictures. It’s easy to use and the pictures come out looking very nice.
