Google Voice Actions Google’s acquires Phonetic Arts for better vocal controlI’m sure all of you know how Google Android phones allow for a lot of vocal control.

This is why Google has recently acquired Phonetic Arts, to help their vocal interface for programs like Google Translate, Google Maps with Navigation, Voice Search, Voice Input, as well as Voice Actions.

So, are we looking at an age where we just talk to our phone to access everything on it? It would certainly look that way. That Android is looking better all the time. And you thought the iPhone was great with its touchscreens and App store.

googlevoicelogo Google Begins Rolling Out Google Voice Gmail Call Recording

Google is one of the biggest names on the Internet with some of their services causing massive strides. Gmail, in particular, has become one of the top email providers on the web and I’m sure many of you use it. However, with stark competition from companies like Facebook, Google is going to need to stay at the top of their game and continue to roll out various features in order to keep their service so widely used.

If you’ve been paying attention you’ll know that Google integrated their Google Voice service into Gmail allowing consumers to make free VoIP calls. This has proven itself to be quite popular because honestly, who doesn’t love free calls? To add to this, Google has added a new feature that will allow Google Voice/Gmail users to actually record the calls they make through the popular email service.

You may not see the feature pop up just yet but rest assured it is being rolled out service wide so if you don’t see it yet you should soon. Now Google, let us make free calls through the Google Voice Android/iPhone app and we’ll call it a day.

In a move that’s been a long time coming, Google has finally officially launched the Google Voice app for the iPhone. The introduction of the service provides users with a number of native Google Chat services such as:

  • Cheap rates for international calls
  • Free text messaging to U.S. numbers
  • Voicemail transcription
  • Display your Google Voice number as caller ID when making calls
  • In addition, the service will also feature push notifications to let you know when you receive a new voicemail or text message, as well as calling via direct access numbers, which should streamline the call process.

This app is a godsend for those who can’t stand the cost associated with sending and receiving text messages, as well as folks who place a lot of international calls and are thus hit with some pretty hefty fees.

The introduction of Google Voice also signals a turning of the page in terms of relations between Apple and Google, who up until this point have been rather bitter foes. Google submitted their Voice app for approval way back in June 2009, but Apple refused to approve and release the service until now. Apple’s original stand was that Google Voice was redundant, and merely offered service the iPhone already provided. Now, after undisclosed changes and a resubmission the app has been approved.

The Google Voice app is a free download and requires only that you have an existing Google Voice account in order for it to work. If you don’t have an account yet you can always sign up for free, so it’s just one minor extra step to take along the way. The release of this app is a pretty big deal, so how many of you are excited to download and get started? Is this enough to make you change your contract with AT&T and start using Google for more of your calls?

iphone gv ofc Official Google Voice app for iPhone hits the App Store

A few weeks after third-party apps started filtering in, Google’s launched its own Google Voice app for the iPhone, and it looks to have all the most important features: call and text support, push notifications, and voicemail access (including transcriptions). It’s available right now — US only at the moment — on iPhones with iOS 3.1 or higher as long as you’ve got a valid Google Voice account set up… so get to it.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Note: For some reason, you need to search the App Store for “googlevoice,” not “google voice.” Weird, we know.

google voice logo How to Forward Your iPhone Voicemails to Google VoiceYesterday my iPhone notified me I had 14 voicemails within the last 6 days. Why didn’t it notify me of the new voicemails as they came? I have no idea. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t really pissed at my iPhone. Not only had I missed important voicemails that I should have received days ago, but it wasn’t the first time this had happened to me.

Like every normal person of the 21st century, I went to Twitter and started bitching about it. Within a few minutes I received replies from people telling me I should let Google Voice take over my iPhone. I already use Google Voice but I don’t want it to completely replace my normal line. Then someone told me I could actually replace my iPhone voicemails with Google Voice voicemails by forwarding my iPhone voicemails to Google Voice.

After doing a bit of research, this made complete sense to me and I decided to give it a go… Read More
