iphone gv ofc Official Google Voice app for iPhone hits the App Store

A few weeks after third-party apps started filtering in, Google’s launched its own Google Voice app for the iPhone, and it looks to have all the most important features: call and text support, push notifications, and voicemail access (including transcriptions). It’s available right now — US only at the moment — on iPhones with iOS 3.1 or higher as long as you’ve got a valid Google Voice account set up… so get to it.

Note: For some reason, you need to search the App Store for “googlevoice,” not “google voice.” Weird, we know.

ios 42 gm iOS 4.2 goes gold, available now to developers

The iPad’s ticket to multitasking freedom — better known as iOS 4.2 — has moves past the beta phase and onto GM, which means retail units should be seeing it soon. Besides the iPad, Apple is also providing builds for the second, third, and fourth generations of the iPod touch, along with the iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4… so if you’ve got a friend with an iPhone Developer Program subscription, now would be a great time to get cozy.

ip4main Apple backpedaling on some iOS development restrictions, will allow third party tools

Woah, who saw this coming? Apple has changed its super-controversial stance on third party developer tools for iOS apps, now allowing any and all comers (which would obviously include Adobe Flash CS5), “as long as the resulting apps do not download any code.” Apple’s also publishing its App Store Review Guidelines at long last, which will give developers a better idea of how their apps are going to be scrutinized by Apple before they submit them. We’re sure we’ll be hearing plenty in the coming weeks as developers and arm chair analysts rifle through Apple’s so-far-secretive guidelines, but mostly we’re just excited to see what sort of innovation and development accessibility we’ve been missing out on while these third party tools have been off the market. The full (and brief) release can be found after the break.

Meanwhile, it seems like it’s time for a little recap:

It’s the moment that many of you have been waiting for: the Dev-Team’s ultrasn0w carrier unlock for iPhone 4 is out. You’ll find version 1.0-1 of ultrasn0w in Cydia on jailbroken devices. If not, just add the repo666.ultrasn0w.com repository. It works for iPhone 4 baseband 01.59 and 3G/3GS basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 and 05.13.04. If none of this makes sense then you’ve got no reason unlocking your device in the first place, buddy.

Update: No-nonsense video embedded after the break showing how to jailbreak and unlock. Easy peasy. [Thanks, Adam]
