Just to let you know, Bowers and Wilkins did not set some blimp in the air at CES 2011. I realize that this title is a little misleading, but I mean to report that Bowers & Wilkins, makers of the Zeppelin and Zeppelin Mini iPod dock, have unveiled the Zeppelin Air, a “premium iPod speaker system featuring Apple’s AirPlay”.
Just like the AirPlay wireless speaker from iHome, this allows users to stream music wirelessly from iTunes as well as the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. In order to work, it does need iTunes 10.1 or later and an Apple product with iOS 4.2 or later.
The Zeppelin is one of those iPod docks that has a reputation of being fine quality. The shape remains the same, but the AirPlay addition was clearly needed if they wanted to stay with the times.
Unfortunately, the price remains a very expensive $599.99. If you can afford that, then look forward to March 2011.
