seafood watch 201x300 Seafood Watch is a Must Have App for Eco Living FoodiesSeafood Watch is a mobile guide based on the Seafood Watch educational service from Monterey Bay Aquarium designed to help you make sustainable seafood choices quickly and easily. Seafood Guide allows you the convenience of access to an enormous amount of information right from your iPhone.

Many of us, in our efforts to live with as minimal an impact on the environment as possible, have taken measures towards living green by incorporating more choices that increase sustainability. Doing so requires making selections that assure we’re not negatively impacting a species into extinction. Further to live healthier we must feel confident that we are not consuming a product that contains high levels of hazardous chemicals such as mercury.

Seafood Watch provides the assurances we need to make a decision on the purchase of seafood at our favorite market, restaurant, or sushi bar. In the past I’ve had cards that I picked up with similar information and carried them with me until they were frayed and unreadable. I’ve also had previous success using similar seafood watch services that utilized texting. I’d text a type of seafood and quickly receive sustainability and health information back via a text message. I found Seafood Watch to be a superior option.

Quick Tethered Boot 05 e1294677434807 Keep Redsn0w Open for a Quick and Easy Tethered Boot

If you’re using RedSn0w as a tethered jailbreak solution for your iPhone, then you undoubtedly try to avoid rebooting your iPhone whenever possible. That’s because, as we’ve previously discussed, a tethered jailbreak requires a computer in order to reboot your iPhone successfully.

This “tethered boot” is accomplished by means of RedSn0w, and the Dev Team has tried to make it as painless as possible with new solutions like ‘one click’ support. However, if you still find that the tethered boot process is consuming a lot of your time, you may want to try leaving RedSn0w running on your computer indefinitely…

Step 1: After you perform a tethered boot, simply avoid clicking the “Finish” button on RedSn0w.

Step 2: When you need to perform another tethered boot, plug your iPhone into your computer, power off your iPhone, and click “Back” on RedSn0w. You should now see a screen that has “Just boot tethered right now” selected. Click “Next”.

Step 3: Now, you’ll find yourself back at the DFU Mode screen. From here, click “Next” and follow the prompts to put your iPhone into DFU mode. After that, your iPhone should boot back up as normal.

By using this method, you save time by eliminating the need to load the IPSW firmware, as it has already been previously loaded. As long as you don’t click “Finish” at the end of the process, you can repeat this over and over as many times as needed.

If you rarely turn off your computer, this is one of the quickest ways to perform a tethered boot on your iPhone.

verizon iphone 0993 Verizon Finally Gets the iPhone

After months years of anticipation, the iPhone is finally coming to Verizon.

Lowell McAdam took the stage this morning and after making an introduction touting the merits of his network, Verizon’s COO, he finally dropped the bomb that everyone expected: the Verizon iPhone.

Our relationship with Apple has developed over the last two years. In 2008 we started talking about bringing the iPhone to a CDMA network. We spent a year testing. Late in 2010 we started offering the iPad… today, we are extremely gratified to announce that the iPhone 4 will be available early next month.

More to come in a minute… Stay tuned!

verizon iphone 1086 The Details About the Verizon iPhone

As expected Steve Jobs didn’t show up this morning to introduce the Verizon iPhone. Instead, his #2, Apple’s COO Tim Cook shared the stage with Verizon COO Lowell McAdam.

Tim’s minute talk was quite disappointing. He clearly was here to make this look more legit, sharing a few basic facts about the Verizon iPhone (Retina Display, A4 chip, FaceTime, App Store, etc…) but didn’t share any technical information.

Now let’s have a closer look at what we know from the Verizon iPhone…

At this point it still isn’t clear if there will be a Verizon iPhone 5 this summer. It’s also quite not clear if the antenna has been improved or not.

The question on everybody’s mind was “what happens when you’re browsing the web and receive a phone call?” Well, data connection drops and your phone starts ringing. In other words, you can’t make a phone call while browsing the web. Although it’s definitely not a deal breaker, especially to Verizon customers who are used to it, I can see this being a minor issue for nerdy people like me.

When?

On February 3rd, Verizon existing customers will be able to pre-order the iPhone 4 on Verizon. On February 10th, everyone will be able to get it either from Verizon or Apple, both online and in stores.

How much?

Just like the AT&T’s iPhone 4, the 16GB version will sell for $199, while the 32GB version will sell for $299. It comes with a 2-year contract.

Easter Egg?

A nice easter egg indeed… Mobile hotspot will be included for up to 5 devices. Bye bye MyWi.

In conclusion, nothing really groundbreaking was unveiled today. The iPhone 4 is coming to Verizon for the same price as it is on AT&T. As expected, data and talk won’t be happen at the same time.

Now I’d be curious to know if there’s going to be a SIM card slot for international travelers but I assume we’ll find out about it quickly.
