Planet Waves Guitar Tools for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad aims to be the only portable guitar utility kit you’ll ever need. The app has a staggering number of features, including a chord finder, scales, metronome, tuner, and guitar store locator. What’s remarkable is that this app can replace an entire guitar chord book, and for less money.
When you fire up Planet Waves Guitar Tools for the first time, you’ll notice the menus and backdrop resemble the leather-textured black plastic and fuzzy blue material of a typical guitar case. Each feature is displayed in a simple list, and represented by a colored guitar pick. The first two picks are the main attraction of this app: the list of guitar chords, and the “chord finder” utility.

PocketGamer.biz has the full details on what people have dubbed “Doodlegate.” It’s the other side of the story that we brought you a couple days ago revolving around the trademark for the word Doodle. We now know the Lima Sky side of the story, and shows some corrections are needed in the original story.
Igor Pusenjak of Lima Sky sent their side of the story to PocketGamer earlier today. It sets the record straight on a few of the details. For one, the story is much more conveluted that we were originally aware of, and two, the request for developers to change their app titles has been cancelled.
The story really revolves around trademark law and what has to be done to protect your trademarks. I don’t want to overreach my knowledge of law, so I’ll let Igor’s statement speak to their side of the ordeal. Suffice to say it’s complex.
The request for developers to change their app titles that had Doodle in them was due to an attempt to protect their trademark on “Doodle Jump.” Here’s the part where trademark law gets complex. Another developer, Accelerato was attempting to have the “Doodle Jump” trademark cancelled because Lima Sky did not prevent other developers from using the word “Doodle” in their titles. Yeah, I don’t get it either.
Lima Sky has instructed their lawyers drop the claims with Apple against the apps with Doodle in the title. So all developers that got the notice will not need to make any changes.
The folks at Lima Sky are good people, they didn’t want to cause anyone undo hassle. In the end they were just trying to protect the copyright for “Doodle Jump”, one that no one can claim isn’t theirs. In an over-litigous society, that gets really complex.
In a fast paced blog world, our rush to report the story quickly and from the information we had, was a bad choice. We now know that and it’s not a choice we will make again.
Can we all just be friends now and start talking about the iPad 2?

Android powered tablets are coming to market by the boat load now that the new year is upon us with CES showing off some of the latest gadgets. With all of these dual-core Tegra 2 touting devices it’s easy to forget about the Samsung Galaxy Tab which has been considered by many to be the first Android powered tablet to take a whack at the iPad.
However, it seems that Sprint isn’t letting us forget about the Samsung Galaxy Tab just yet as it was just made known that the wireless carrier will be dropping the price tag to just $299.99 with a 2-year contract. While this may still seem like quite a bit with subsidies factored in it is definitely a more palatable price tag than the original $499.99 with 2-year contract that the Galaxy Tab started with.
Many have speculated that this price tag is due to the fact that the second gen Galaxy Tab with 1.2GHz processor and 4G connectivity is on its way but nothing official has been said just yet. We’ll keep you posted.

An interesting new app to talk to you about today, folks, as I plunge back into the depths of iTunes (which, by now, you’ve probably come to expect of me on Thursdays) to check out what’s going on in there. And what I’ve got for you is one for the mechanically inclined among you, the iHandy Level.
The iHandy Level is, basically, an app for construction, giving you a level in your iPhone (or iPad or iPod Touch). You’ll get the option to hold the bubble and release it, as well as adjust the sensitivity of the bubble so you can
track things a little slower. If you’re up for spending a little cash, dropping two bucks on the app will get you access to a protractor, ruler, plumb line, and surface level.
Even at the free level, the level actually works really well, showing you precisely whether whatever you’re setting your Apple gear of choice down on is level or not (turns out the table at my favorite coffee shop is canted at about a two degree angle). Expanding outward gives you plenty of other carpenter’s tools, and they work about as well as the level does.
Sure, the whole thing is really niche, but for carpenters, this would likely be a truly great thing. Use your iPod for music, and then turn around and use it for a level or protractor. It just adds to the versatility of the whole thing, and there’s nothing I like so well as getting a variety of uses out of any one particular item. Versatility is just the best thing you can get out of a device, and this is the kind of thing that improves the versatility.
You may not get a whole lot of value out of this, but if you’re any kind of woodworker, you’ll definitely want this on hand.
The Good
Works well
Offers terrific versatility for woodworkers
The Bad
Incredibly limited
Score 7 / 10

Do you want this Game Boy-themed iPhone 4 case? Well, how does it feel to want? Not all that hot from where we’re sitting, that’s for damn sure. Spotted at Incipio’s CES booth, the company put the case together to demo the company’s production capabilities. Sadly, for us, the thing won’t be coming to market at any time in the near future (unless someone in Shenzhen decides to take on the cause, that is). We must say, this is a big improvement over the company’s iPod nano watch bands — and an immense improvement over the guy who shoved an HTC Aria inside his old Game Boy (throwing in a fake iPhone 4 for good measure). Get another look after the break.
