ilivex ipad 300x225 Use iLIVEx for Remote Access to X Applications With iPadThe iLIVEx app for iPad and connected suite of solutions is a good, low-cost way to network a small business or organization.

StarNet Communications has come up with a straightforward method for those who want to use an iPad to stay connected to a remote desktop. Use the iLIVEx app to connect to and display a Linux desktop or to work on an individual X11 application.

In comparison to most of the App Store, iLIVEx is at the BMW price level: the two versions are $14.99 and $24.99. For personal use these are the only costs you would incur as each copy of iLIVEx includes a free account on a StarNet Linux server to host applications such as FireFox and OpenOffice. However, there are additional costs associated with the company’s other products. 500x iphone20remotephoto 280x210 Apple Remote 2.0This is Apple Remote, and it has nothing to do with using the iPhone as a Universal remote.

This Apple Remote is an interface for the iPhone 4 and plays really nice with the new Retina display. My Source says that the Remote “looks like the native iPod app on the iPad”, so much so that it seems like having a “lean and fast version of iTunes on a touchscreen”.

You can get iPhone Remote in version 2.0 form.

09 28 10remote 229x300 Apple Remote Finally UpdatedAfter a good long year of waiting, the guy that was too busy to update the Remote app has apparently found enough free time to build an update.

The new update brings the amazing Remote functionality to the iPad and has finally given the retina display treatment for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Home sharing is also supported now, which lets the remote app pick up shared iTunes folders that are on the home network.

Most importantly though, at least in the eyes of Steve Jobs, the new Remote update supports the Apple TV which will be shipping soon.

If you missed the boat on the whole Remote app because of its lack of buzz over the last year, now’s the time to download. The app gives you absolute control of your computers iTunes program, letting you change the volume, change speakers, make genius lists, and best of all, run iTunes DJ… all from your iDevice.

The update is out now, so either hit the update button or download the free app as soon as you get the chance.

09 28 10remote Apple Remote app 2.0 adds support for new Apple TV, iPad

No surprises here, but Apple’s just released version 2.0 of the Remote app for iPhone and iPad, which adds in support for the new iOS-based Apple TV in addition to iTunes on OS X. The interface is mostly the same — a trackpad-like screen for ATV remote control and an iPod-like interface for more direct media playback — but it’s now optimized for the Retina display on the iPhone 4 and the larger screen size of the iPad. Since the new Apple TV is streaming-only, Remote also now has better support for controlling shared music libraries, making remote control of iTunes on your HTPC slightly easier as well. It’s available now and it’s free, so go grab it.
