Facebook is testing out a new feature that lets you subscribe to all of the actions of a specific user. This means you won’t miss any notifications whenever a user does an action. Right now Facebook picks and chooses what shows up on your News Feed using an algorithm.

This may lead to a fan count or subscriber count for users, just like Twitter does. Right now the new feature is just in test mode so don’t expect it on your profile anytime soon.

These updates include status updates, photos being uploaded, and links being shared. The feature is currently only being tested on a small percentage of users.

Screen shot 2010 09 03 at 1.21.46 PM U.S. Open Fight Going Viral On YouTube [VIDEO]
The Novak Djokovic vs. Philipp Petzschner U.S. Open tennis match was delayed due to a fight that took place in the stands in the upper deck at Arthur Ashe Stadium. “It was far away from the court; we couldn’t really see what was going on,” stated Djokovic. “I hope it was no Serbian up there.” Apparently a woman in her 40’s and her father confronted the arguing man earlier and he did not appreciate what they said. So the woman slapped him in the face. And let to even more hostility. All three of the people fighting were handcuffed and were taken to the 110th Precinct in Queens. The YouTube views of this video is increasing rapidly. Check out the video of the fight below:

Screen shot 2010 09 03 at 1.29.18 PM Puppy Throwing Girl Found Thanks To Internet Man Hunt
Pictured this screenshot is a girl that threw a bunch of defenseless puppies into a river. The video of the event went on the Internet and people were outraged. 4chan started by finding information about the YouTube account who uploaded the video at first. Then they found him on a Croatian gaming forum complaining about 4chan. Popular movie director Michael Bay even offered a $50,000 reward for anyone who identified the girl and brought her to justice.

An Internet man-hunt led by 4chan began shortly after. The Bosnian police identified the girl and immediately hit her with a $6,400 fine. The girl lives in Bugojno in Bosnia. Apparently the girl felt bad for what she did and apologized in a new video that was uploaded. Below is a message that she wrote:

The girl named Katja Puschnik wrote:

“My name is Katja Puschnik and I would like to apologize [sic] for my behavior. The puppies belonged to my grandma and she told me to get rid of them because they were only 3 days and were ill. They had parasites from their mother. I didn’t know [sic] exactly what to do so I threw [sic] them in the river because it was a short death, I did not want to make them suffer. I am really sorry for this :-( ”

This is the second man-hunt that recently took place through the Internet. Another lady was part of an Internet man-hunt after she placed a cat in a garbage bin. She was identified immediately after the Internet man-hunt took place and brought to justice.

Screen shot 2010 09 03 at 10.22.22 AM Google Handing Off Google Wave To Open Source Community
Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) announced that they are handing off Google Wave to the open source community. This is because Google decided to end development of Google Wave as a standalone product.

The Google Wave team will expand on the 200,000+ lines of code that went into the product and detailed on the website waveprotocol.org. The open source project will be known as “Wave in a Box.”

The Wave in a Box project will have an application bundle that includes server and web clients that support real-time collaboration. Threaded conversations will be supported in the Wave in a Box application. Wave in a Box has gadget, robot, and data API support. Wave data can be imported from wave.google.com.

The open source project will not have the same functionality as Google Wave, but developers will have the ability to run wave servers and host waves on their own servers.

Screen shot 2010 09 03 at 10.57.57 AM Sophos: Apple Ping Has No Spam Or URL Filtering
Internet security firm Sophos has reported that the Ping social network built into Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iTunes is vulnerable to spam and scams. There are 160 million credit card holders on iTunes. You don’t necessarily need to add a credit card to create an iTunes account. That means tons of spammers can join Ping.

“[Ping] implements no spam or URL filtering,” stated Sophos. “[Ping is] drowning in scams and spams.” Unverified accounts have been created on Ping already. There is a fake Ben Folds Five account and a fake Mark Zuckerberg account already.

“It’s ironic that the most common scams on Ping right now revolve around Apple’s own iPhone. It’s safe to assume that Ping does incorporate some rudimentary filtering to prevent offensive messages from being posted, so hopefully Apple’s security team can extend this to also block scam messages and malicious links. In the meantime, though, Ping users should be wary of believing what they read on the new service,” added Sophos.
