Android – Iphone – Applications

American RPG gamers have a new option for their iOS devices today, as EA has officially released Heroes Lore III in the US. The game, which was originally titled Heroes Lore: Stigmata of Gaia, has been available to international markets for several months, but is just now arriving in North America. EA hasn’t given any reason for the delay.

The game features “hardcore RPG” action and promises over 30 hours of gameplay. The single player campaign is spread over 6 different areas and players can choose to equip a number of weapons including swords, shields, guns and blades. For those with a tilt towards multiplayer, the app allows for both one-on-one PVP combat and 2 v 2 battles.

The Heroes Lore franchise is a huge success in Asia, dominating the cell phone RPG market. While you may not even realize there is such a market, RPG games are huge in Asia, and mobile gaming is also a big deal. Put those together and you have a franchise which is highly venerated across the Pacific.

But will this success manage to spill over into the American market? At this point we’re unsure. The reactions of those who have played the international version have been decidedly mixed, so it’s not as though this is an absolute killer app which Americans have been waiting for night and day. Also, the extensive delay gives us pause, but if EA was using this time to fix gameplay issues and do more than merely translate text then it may make the game worth checking out. At any rate, fans who have been eagerly anticipating the game since it was announced in September can now finally dive in; we just hope it was worth the wait.

Having trouble managing your iPad or other mobile device while just trying to live your life?

Fortunately, there is the iArm. It’s perfect for iPad users as you can mount your favorite iDevice there, or even a laptop! You can even put a fan there to keep it cool or something else.

I’m sure there are a lot of people who might find that you want this accessory, but it doesn’t really exist. You can get a it as a prank though, which includes a box for it, and that is about all. They are available with 3 for $20.

If you want to find a holder for your iPad, then you can get the HeloStrap, AirStrap, and the Hand-e-holder.

I’m big enough to admit it. I once owned an Apple Newton. *Cringe* I know, I know. You don’t even have to tell me what you’re thinking. At the time, though, I was entranced by the idea of portable note taking and the way-ahead-of-its-time notion of handwriting recognition. Today, the iPad can do all of that, plus just about anything else a developer can imagine it doing. But, amazingly, note taking is still a priority. Th built-in notes app probably suffices for many people, but its bare-bones approach doesn’t allow for significant organization or even variety in note types. That’s where apps like Notability come in.

Notability is a big behemoth of a note taking app, able to do pretty much anything you want it to do (with one major exception – more on that in a minute). Want a place to type up your notes? Check. Want to organize those notes by topic? Want to add and edit web clips, photos and simple figures/drawings? Check, check and check. Want to record your voice notes and associate them with your written ones? Big check.

Generally speaking, Notability is easy to learn and use, and anything that seems confusing can be quickly cleared up by using the extensive help files. It’s use of a built-in web browser and photo/web clip editor is also impressive, as is its on-the-fly reformatting of text to flow around images and clips (a la Apple’s Pages app). Once you are finished with your notes, you can send them to yourself or others via email, of course, but you can also send them as PDF files to your Dropbox account or iTunes. Printing is enabled in Notability, and (using the Mac OSX application Printopia at least) it prints beautifully.

The only real downside I see in Notability is that you cannot hand write your notes like you can with other apps like Penultimate. Then again, outside of its handwriting capability, Penultimate is fairly limited. It all depends on what you are looking for in an app. If you want something akin to one or more Moleskine notebooks, I recommend Penultimate. If, however, you have the need to take many, many notes and annotate them with photos, voice and web clips, Notability is the exceptional choice.

And no, I don’t have my Newton anymore. Can you imagine trying to carry that thing around in your pocket?

We have reported on the Gresso Luxor phone before, and it is definitely a phone for the “Rich and Famous”, so to speak.

This particular version has 42-carat sapphire crystal, and has a back of African blackwood. Not that we haven’t heard of cell phones with wooden backs before.

I believe that the price on this one is about $5,000, the other that we reported on, the World Time Cellphone, was about $6,000. So you save some money.

Once again, a phone with a transparent screen has shown up, and this time it is from Lenovo.

The last one was from TDK, and the S800. Have you ever noticed that when a company shows off one of these phones, they usually don’t get put in the hands of public, but models?

Yeah, I’m sure there will come a day when every pane of glass is a touchscreen of some type.
