There is nothing quite like a heated game of foosball. It’s one of the few games I know that can get everyone riled up without involving any contact-sport element (well..usually). Therefore, I was incredibly thrilled to find TSoccer, a foosball app made explicitly for the iPad.

The awesome thing abut the game is you can control the players as you would on a regular foosball table — by using the “handles” of the bars. Even though the touch interface takes a little getting used to, the experience is pretty flawless and true to its foosball roots. As long as you know how to play the game, you’re good to go — it’s just on a screen instead of a table. An added bonus is that TSoccer keeps tabs on all your stats; no more disputes about who’s the best! What’s more, there are plenty of settings so that you can choose a 1 or 2 player game, decide if you’re playing for time or a certain amount of goals, elect the surface to play on, and many other features so that the foosball experience is as close to the one you know and love.

The only thing I miss about the archaic version is the ability to do things like spin. While the TSoccer for iPad certainly eliminates some controversy over rules, I do wish the game could implement some sort of setting that could enable such features, because let’s face it, half the fun is bickering and cheating (and spinning). On the flip side, the fact that foosball can now be reduced to a 10-inch screen and still maintain its essence is pretty incredible — as long as you have the device, you can play the game wherever, whenever, and with whomever, and you don’t need to set aside an extra room for it (or risk getting hit in the face by a ball or jabbed in the stomach by one of the bars…believe me, serious hazards). TSoccer is the same foosball fun; it’s just been given a digital facelift.
