So today, I’m going plunging back into the deep dark depths of the iTunes App Store to see what another app is like and, of course, fill you in on the results. Today I went to the travel section–I’m not sure why, I don’t do much traveling–but spotting the Urbanspoon app gave me pause.
I may not travel much, but I do enjoy a good meal. And the Urbanspoon app’s entire reason for being is to give you a line on a good meal.
See, it works like this. Basically, you select a city, a style of dining, and a price range. You can randomize any or all of those components, and then check accordingly. For example…let’s say you were looking to go to Los Angeles for the weekend and you wanted to know where the donut shops were. Besides the one with the big ceramic donut on top. You’d use the app’s scroll wheel controls to go to Los Angeles, select it and lock it in, then do the same for donuts. Lastly, you’d figure out the price range you wanted to operate in, and check accordingly. You would then be able to select, one at a time, your choice of donut shops in Los Angeles. You can read reviews, check an aggregate score, and even get an address and phone number. Conversely, if you’re so inclined, you can lock in only a city, and let Urbanspoon pick where–and what–you eat that night.
Containing both volumes of information and a huge potential for adventure, Urbanspoon will allow you a huge variety of options, and if you’re any kind of foodie at all, you’re going to want this app in your arsenal. Considering that the app is free, you’ll have an especially easy time hitting that download button.
I personally look forward to trying out more random restaurants near me, and seeing if I can find anything new and interesting that I’d never thought to try.
The Good
Incredibly easy to use
Provides volumes of information

The Bad
It’s really only good if you want different things to eat
