We’d been disappointed to find that iOS 4.2 only brought AirPlay video support to built-in Apple apps on the iPhone and iPad, but it looks like that’s changing soon — Apple just posted up the first iOS 4.3 beta, which allows devs to send video from apps or websites to an Apple TV. There’s also a new beta of the Apple TV software for testing it out — it doesn’t have any version notes, so we don’t know if it offers any additional features as well.
There are quite a few new features included in 4.3: personal hotspot is indeed included on the iPhone, although it needs to be enabled on the carrier side to work, and the iPad’s side switch can now be set back to being an orientation lock, which should make a lot of people very happy. The iPad also gains some multitouch multitasking gestures, which are pretty interesting, actually: you can use four or five fingers to pinch to the home screen, swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar, and swipe left or right between apps. We’re also seeing a new FaceTime icon on the iPod touch, which is nice, and 9to5 Mac noticed that the iPad now supports fullscreen iAd banners, which is less nice. Check after the break for a quick video of the iPad gestures.
[Thanks, Matt]

One of the biggest reasons that I chose to stick with the tethered RedSn0w 0.9.6 release for my iPhone 4 is because of the beta version’s ongoing problems with Bluetooth support.
Up to this point, all of the beta versions of RedSn0w 0.9.7 — an untethered jailbreak released by the Dev Team — have thus far been devoid of Bluetooth capabilities. When using the beta, the Bluetooth option simply stated “Not Available.”
With the Dev Team’s latest update to the RedSnow beta, the Bluetooth hurdle has finally been eliminated, and now you can enjoy an untethered jailbreak with full Bluetooth support…
As with all versions of the RedSn0w 0.9.7 beta, you will need to have access to development 4.2b3 firmware in order to use this jailbreak. Unfortunately, there is only an OS X version of 0.9.7b5 thus far, and you can download it from our downloads section.
For your convenience, we have posted a full tutorial on jailbreaking your iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.1 using the RedSn0w beta. Please keep in mind that this is still a beta jailbreak, meaning it is likely that you will still encounter bugs here and there.
One of the few big remaining bugs continues to be incompatibility with Skype; the app crashes as soon as you try to launch it. There are also reports of incompatibilities with iBooks.
Seeing as Skype is a heavily used app of mine, this is still a deal breaker for me. For those of you who are developers and don’t use Skype, RedSn0w 0.9.7b5 may be your ticket to untethered freedom.
What do you think? I’m still waiting it out…

So far, RedSn0w has been the only publicly released tool that can jailbreak iOS 4.2.1. The Dev Team warned users about the dangers of updating their iOS firmware to 4.2.1 before the RedSn0w beta was released. Around that time, the iPhone hacker, P0sixNinja, said that the GreenPois0n jailbreak would be ready for 4.2.1 around the same time as RedSn0w.
The GreenPois0n jailbreak has still not come out for 4.2.1, a LimeRa1n update is nowhere to be found, and all we have had is a somewhat unstable RedSn0w beta. Luckily, PosixNinja has recently said that the GreenPois0n (most likely tethered) jailbreak will actually be ready very soon. And Geohot could always come out of the woodwork and surprise us like he did with LimeRa1n.
After some drama about a leaked SHAtter exploit in mid-December, the jailbreak developer community has seemed to be a little more divided. Comex, a prominent personality in the jailbreak community, was supposed to be working on an untethered jailbreak tool for 4.2.1. However, it seems he might be saving his hack for iOS 4.3…

![Beta Testing Beta Testing RedSn0w Untethered Jailbreak Updated [Fixes Native Apps Crashes]](http://www.iphonedownloadblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Beta-Testing.jpg)
Earlier today, the Dev Team released the beta version of their RedSn0w untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 (see our tutorial here). Like we reported, this untethered jailbreak comes with its fair share of issues, one of the most annoying being that some of the native apps would just crash.
While there are still a bunch of bugs to be worked out, the Dev Team updated RedSn0w to version 0.9.7b2, which fixes this issue where native apps like the app switcher or the iPod app would crash… Read More

There are several different web browsers to choose from on the various mobile platforms. On iOS you have the choice of the stock Safari web browser in addition to several other third party applications in the App Store with browsers being no different. However, if you’ve been paying attention to Android web browsers you’ll know that Mozilla favors Google’s open source mobile platform as opposed to iOS.
The reason I say this is because they have had a version of Firefox mobile on the market for quite some time now – previously dubbed Fennec mobile. Well it was just announced that the latest version of Firefox, version 4, has been released to the Android Market. Unfortunately there aren’t exactly any ground breaking features here with the latest version only including things like UI tweaks, deeper language support and overall stability improvements.
When exactly Mozilla will release the final version of Firefox for Android is any one’s guess but they are getting closer with each beta release.
