cr48chromeos Google Announces Cr 48 – The World’s First ChromeOS Laptop

Google has been making waves (or should I say tsunamis) with their Android mobile platform but have another, desktop platform in the works as well dubbed Chrome OS. We’ve been hearing about this Linux-based operating system for quite some time even getting some alone time with it thanks to some early builds.

However, things are about to get quite real as Google has just announced the Cr-48 Chrome OS powered laptop. Unfortunately, this laptop won’t go up for sale as the only way to get it is to join the Chrome OS Pilot Program though which Google will distribute these laptops.

Anyways, the Cr-48 features a 12.1-inch screen, full sized keyboard, oversized finger-pad, Qualcomm Gobi 3G chip for use with Verizon, 802.11n WiFi, webcam and flash storage. Google also tells us that the battery life is good for 8 or more hours of active use and 8 days of standby. Not only that, but they also say that the device can boot up in just 10 seconds – pretty amazing.

With such stark competition from platforms like Windows and OS X it’s going to be interesting to see how Chrome OS holds up.

Check out the pilot program here.

qualcommlogo Qualcomm to Enter Handset Business, Focus on Android Smartphones

The mobile operating systems that powers today’s hottest devices like the Apple iPhone 4,  HTC EVO 4G and Samsung Galaxy S are quite crucial for the experience they provide. However, while an operating system is what an actual consumer sees, what is going on under the hood is arguably more important. In fact, the brains of the operations (a smartphone’s processor) is what helps give modern day smartphones the ability to record high definition video, play graphic intensive games and multitask.

One of the biggest suppliers of these high speed mobile processors is none other than Qualcomm. You’ve probably heard the name before because the Qualcomm manufactured 1GHz Snapdragon mobile processor appears in hard hitting devices like the Google Nexus One, HTC Droid Incredible and HTC EVO 4G.

However, while Qualcomm has secured their spot as one of the world’s leading mobile processor manufacturers, they dont’ look to stop there. Reports have surfaced today that says Qualcomm is looking to enter into the Android smartphone market with a project they are internally calling Quadroid. According to these reports, Qualcomm will not only produce the processors and other mobile chips for these smartphones but also the exterior design for the smartphones as well.

Seeing how this is pretty much a rumor not much is to be said about when we will be seeing a Qualcomm developed smartphone. However, if this is something that peaks your interest be sure to check back as we follow this story.
