Back when the original iPhone made the rounds consumers everywhere applauded the device for being a game changer but criticized it for a few things. One of the biggest things that consumers gave Apple a bad rap for is the missing copy & paste feature. Luckily, Apple eventually delivered with an update to iOS but it let future mobile OS developers know: do not leave out copy & paste.

Well it seems that Microsoft didn’t get the memo and have decided to leave copy & paste out of Windows Phone 7. Luckily, rumors have been floating around for a while that say the software giant will be living their latest mobile platform the highly sought after feature but when is any one’s guess.

Today, a video has appeared that shows the feature being utilized on Windows Phone 7 which you can view above. Of course, this doesn’t notify us of when the update is coming but it does effectively confirm that copy & paste will in fact be hitting the Windows Phone 7 platform.

You know all those Apple commercials that feature a series of apps and then a word after each like “entertaining,” “productive,” and “artistic?” Well it seems you can add “life-saving” to the list as a basketball coach in Los Angeles used the iPhone Aid app to resuscitate a young player who nearly died during a game.

Jones 300x200 Coach Saves a Life with Phone AidXavier Jones collapsed during a high school basketball game, at which point coaches Eric Cooper Sr. and John Osorno rushed onto the court and, with the help of Phone Aid, began administering CPR. The two men kept the boy stabilized until paramedics arrived and were able to take him to the hospital. Jones is expected to make a full recovery.

Cooper had purchased the app just the night before, in what turned out to be an extremely fortuitous coincidence. “It was really fresh and clear in my brain,” Cooper said of the life-saving technique. “We are trained in CPR, but the iPhone app was a stabilizer for us.” At the hospital Jones was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a hardening of the heart muscles, which caused the near-fatal event.

It’s situations like these which prove once again that the iPhone is so much more than a phone or a fancy gaming device, but can also be harnessed to really do some measurable good in the world. Though we can’t say that Jones wouldn’t have survived if his coach hadn’t downloaded Phone Aid, having the app helped make sure that proper first aid was administered and a young man’s life was allowed to continue, making it well worth the $1.99 asking price if you ask us. We wish Jones a speedy recovery and offer our heartfelt thanks to Entanke for creating such a wonderful app. This is a feel-good story if there ever was one.

osxappstore Apple Launching Mac App Store Next Week?

While Apple hasn’t saturated every product niche, they tend to the dominate the niches they have entered. A prime example of this is the mobile application market which they pretty much introduced with the iOS App Store. To date, the App Store (which appears on the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch) is the largest mobile application store to date with several developers making top dollar from their offerings.

Not too long ago Apple announced that they would be taking things a step further with the introduction of a Mac App Store that would give users of OS X a library of software to choose from. This will effectively give developers a new market to saturate meaning more money is to be made. While we’ve heard quite a bit about the Mac App Store we have been unable to pin point exactly when it will be released.

However, today rumors have surfaced that say Apple is looking to take the wraps off their Mac App Store next week on December 13th. Of course, considering this is a rumor you’r going to have to take it with a grain of salt until Apple actually comes forth to speak on the matter.

Are you looking forward to a Mac App Store?

googleebookstore Google Launches eBook Store, Competes With Apple, Barnes & Noble, Amazon

E-readers are becoming quite popular with Apple touting the iPad’s eBook reading ability quite high not to mention dedicated devices from Barnes & Noble and Amazon like the Nook Color and Kindle, respectively. Each of the above mentioned companies not only push e-reader devices, but they also offer eBooks for sale through virtual retail outlets.

However, if you needed a bit more competition thrown into the mix, it was announced today that Google has entered the eBook business with their own virtual store. Not only are there eBooks available for a price, but Google is also offering over 3 million free eBooks through their store. All purchases will naturally be stored in the cloud with progress being synced across devices.

As you can see from the above screen shot, Google will be offering their eBooks through many different outlets including iOS, Android, desktop platforms and more.

It’s going to be interesting to see if this is a game changer and how it will play into Google’s future offerings. Perhaps the search engine giant is dreaming up a dedicated, self-branded eBook reader? Only time will tell.

Check out the Google eBookstore, here.
