It’s no secret that Android is a great platform with sales numbers and an installbase to prove it. However, due to the massive number of devices on the market powered by the platform, Android versions are plentiful. This poses a threat to developers who are looking to release software that take advantage of the latest features while still incorporating a large portion of the Android userbase. Luckily, hardware manufacturers have been decent at getting the latest updates out by some devices are still trailing behind.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, for instance, is one device that just only recently got the Android 2.1 update leaving consumers wondering if the Froyo update will ever roll around. Fortunately, a ray of hope seems to have shown its face in the form of a Turkish customer support letter, shown above.
While we aren’t the most well versed in this language, this letter states that we may be seeing Android 2.2 for the Xperia X10 sometime in Q2 2011. Yes it’s late, but better late than never right? Of course before you get too excited make note that this is not officially confirmed so it could be complete hogwash.
We’ll keep you posted.

We finish out our week with a look at the HTC Wildfire, a new model recently released out at Alltel Wireless that’ll give you a lot of utility, but not without cost. It’s not the best phone you’ll find, but it is one of the most useful I’ve seen in a while.
The HTC Wildfire is a PDA-style Android 2.1 smartphone that offers Bluetooth connectivity, Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS,touch screen controls, EDGE and GPRS support, a microSD card slot, compass, proximity sensor, USB port, speakerphone, mobile web, mobile email, text messaging, a variety of downloadable content issues like ring tones and desktop themes, that all important access to the Android Market, even access to Twitter. You’ll also get a five megapixel camera, music player, video player, and a battery that offers a rated 6.7 hours of talk time (which is an oddly specific runtime).
See what I mean? Plenty of great things here, and the Android Market just makes things even better. But like I said in the lead-in paragraph, we’re not without problems here. The screen’s a bit small, and the controls are a bit balky. But aside from that, we’re doing pretty well here. It’s no iPhone, of course, but it’s got plenty of charm in its own right.
You’ll likely find better phones than the HTC Wildfire out there, but this one is definitely a pretty good model.
The Good
Good battery life
Plenty of features
Android Market access
The Bad
Balky controls
Small touchscreen
Score 7 / 10

In this day and age if a smartphone doesn’t have all of the features another does it ill get picked apart ruthlessly. Luckily, thanks to the top notch software engineering team at many of these smartphone manufacturers features are continuously added following their initial release.
One such example of this is the Xperia X10 from Sony Ericsson. When originally announced, SE let us know that the device did not feature multitouch support and would not be getting it due to the fact that the included hardware simply wouldn’t support it. Luckily, it was made known today that SE will in fact be bringing multitouch to the Xperia X10 in the near future.
Unfortunately, if you’re looking for full fledged multitouch support, you’re going to be disappointed. It seems that SE will only be bringing limited multitouch support to the device including pinch to zoom in the web browser and Google Maps. Then again, what other multitouch do you really need (besides for games)?

By now, most of you know about the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, I know I do with my hands-on review. A while ago, we reported that the Xperia X10 was getting an Eclair (Android 2.1) update in September. It is actually just been announced. The update will deliver HD video recording capability, continuous auto-focus, as [...]
