I’ve been seeing a lot of interesting developments for Android 3.0 (also known as Gingerbread), such as a video calling feature.
Believe it or not, Gingerbread could be coming up on Android phones in about a month or so. I believe this is a month ahead of schedule.
Man, some Android phones don’t even have Froyo (Android 2.2) yet. Now we are talking about 3.0.

Not much is known about Gingerbread, the Version 3.0 of Android, but I have recently heard that it will be equipped for video calling.
Andy Rubin has stated that:
We support video chat today, with Google Talk Video. It works on the desktop. Whether that can be repurposed and made appropriate for sipping bandwidth for mobile, it’s an exercise that’s underway.
This is a pretty good point about video conferencing available for Android versions 2.0 and greater. I can only assume that version 3.0 could be built for it. This is assuming that anyone wants Facetime-style video conferencing.

Tablets are quickly becoming some of the most talked about gadgets in the entire tech industry and with good reason. If you’ve been paying attention you already know that Apple’s iPad has posted massive sales numbers and even higher profits for the company. Thanks to this success, many hardware manufacturers have come forth to announce their own competitors for Apple’s popular tablet.
One such device is the Samsung Galaxy Tab which features a 7-inch screen, 1 GHz processor, 512MB of RAM and of course Google’s Android 2.2 mobile operating system. Installing Android 2.2 seems to becoming a trend as several hardware manufacturers other than Samsung have also come forth to announce their old tablets running the platform.
However, it seems that LG is none too happy with Android 2.2. In fact, the company has just announced today that they will be axing their plans of producing an Android 2.2 powered tablet. This doesn’t mean they are out of the tablet game entirely but instead they will wait for a future release of Android before they put their own offerings on the market.
Or perhaps they are waiting for Google’s ChromeOS? Lets hope so.

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) director of products for mobile at Hugo Barra said that Android (Froyo) is not “optimized for use on tablets.” Google is currently not using Android on any tablets, but the Gingerbread and Honeycomb version of the operating system is hinted to be of use for tablets. The Galaxy Tab device will be running on Android and it seems like that this may contradict the statement, but the Tab can be considered an oversized phone rather than a tablet.
“Android is an open platform. We saw at IFA 2010 all sorts of devices running Android, so it already running on tablets,” said Barra. “But the way Android Market works is it’s not going to be available on devices that don’t allow applications to run correctly.”
“Which devices do, and which don’t will be unit specific, but Froyo is not optimized for use on tablets,” added Barra. “If you want Android market on that platform, the apps just wouldn’t run, [Froyo] is just not designed for that form factor.”
“We want to make sure that we’re going to create a application distribution mechanism for the Android market, to ensure our users have right experience.”

Now that the Galaxy Tab was on prominent display at IFA, it is going to be quite a cool thing.
Apparently, a Samsung head of product planning named WP Hong is already making the next model. This new one is apparently being called the Honeycomb, but that could refer to the operating system which it uses.
After all, Android 2.2 is known as Froyo, and Android 3.0 is Gingerbread. By the way, the Tab is going to get an update to Gingerbread.
I’m sure we’ll be seeing more on this later.
