imlite app 280x210 IM+ Lite application for BlackBerry handsetsIM+ Lite is an interesting application for BlackBerry smartphones developed by Shape Services which makes it easy to integrate different messaging services, including AIM, MSN, Windows Live Messenger, ICQ, and more.

The good news is that the application has recently been updated and there is a free version which comes with new features, such as improved group chat for MSN and Skype, a history review of all conversations, and a new user-interface with new themes. So if you own a BlackBerry and are into chatting online, I guess IM+ Lite might be worth a try.

dropboxblackberry Dropbox Releases Beta Application For Research in Motion’s BlackBerry Platform

Are you using Dropbox? If not you may want to check it out as it has been critically acclaimed as one of the web’s latest and greatest hosting platforms to date. What’s so great about Dropbox is its ability to sync up with your mobile devices and receive files sent to the service from them. This means if you take a picture with your iPhone, you’ll be able to utilize the Dropbox application to quickly upload the photo to the service.

BlackBerry uses, until now, have been left in the dust as there had been no Dropbox application available for Research in Motion’s mobile platform. Luckily, it was just announced today that Dropbox has released an extremeley limited beta edition of their mobile application for the BlackBerry platform. Unfortunately, if you aren’t already in on the beta you probably won’t be as according to reports there were only 500 slots available – all of which have already been filled.

We’ll let you know when a public beta goes live – hopefully it’s soon.

face1 225x300 OmniSketch ReviewOmniSketch is an app designed to bring procedural drawing to the iDevice platform. What used to take hours can take only minutes with one of the various tools that OmniSketch has to offer. With 24 different shapes and styles to choose from, the possibilities for artistic creativity are endless.

OmniSketch can be used to create various pictures, depending on the level of talent of the user. The easiest, in my opinion, are more abstract designs, that make full use of the various features available in OmniSketch. With mirrored drawing, users can make intricate designs with ease. The Kaleidoscope mode especially kept my interest for sometime, where everything that is drawn is mirrored in all four corners of the image.

There are various other tools available in OmniSketch as well. There are blending options to adjust brightness and depth, line width adjustments, opacity adjustments, and tons of other tools you would expect from an art app of this design. Especially nice, is the ability to upload your work onto facebook, twitter, or an online gallery for the world to see.

I’m not an artist, and I certainly don’t see myself having the capability to utilize the full potential of OmniSketch. I do, however, realize how powerful this app can be for those with the talents to make good use of it. Even if you don’t have the necessary skill set to master this app, the Kaleidoscope mode in and of itself makes for a lot of fun, even if for a short time.

I can’t recommend OmniSketch to everyone, because some people just aren’t interested in Art. It’s a sure fire bet for procedural artists, and an interesting app for anyone interested in art, even slightly. It’s a small risk at $1.99, and even if you interact with the app in no greater detail than I have, you’ll leave thinking it was an interesting experience.

I’ve included an image from the OmniSketch website to show the full potential of the app, as well as some of my own images showing off the various brush strokes and options.

handy light tether rm eng 1279673029 Handy Light for iPhones dirty little secret: tethering (update)You may ask yourself, why on earth would anyone pay 99 cents for an iPhone app whose sole purpose is to flash bright, solid colors? We certainly wouldn’t recommend it, but Handy Light has a great little Easter egg that undoubtedly doesn’t jive with the folks at Cupertino HQ. Like Nullriver’s Netshare app before it, this little piece of software allows for SOCKS proxy tethering, without having to sign up for AT&T’s tethering plan. Instructions available via the video below, and if you’re looking to pick up the app yourself, better hurry — we can’t imagine Apple will let this one stay in the store for very much longer.

Update: Looks like the app’s been pulled. Ye who snoozes, ergo must lose. If you did manage to nab and the video below isn’t working (we see it just fine), check out App Shopper for more detailed, text-based instructions.
