facebook logo 315x118 How To Download Your Photos, Videos, Wall Posts, Messages, and Information From Facebook
Just in case you missed out on the tutorial about how to download all of your messages, videos, pictures, wall posts, etc. from Facebook — I thought I would provide you with a simple tutorial. Here is step-by-step guide on how to do it:

1. Click the Account drop-down menu at the top right and click on the Account Settings.

2. Go to the section where it says “Download Your Information.” Click on “Learn More.”

3. You will be taken to the Download page. Click on the Download button and hit the Download button again after a pop-up appears.

4. After hitting the Download button, Facebook will start to prepare all of your content into one single file. Then Facebook will e-mail you once they are done. It will be sent to the same e-mail address that you log in to Facebook with.

5. Once you click the link sent to your e-mail, you will be asked to verify your Facebook password. After typing in your password, click on Continue and then click Download now.

6. A ZIP file will be downloaded to your computer. After double-clicking on the ZIP file, it should automatically be unzipped in the same location as the ZIP file.

7. Within the unzipped Facebook folder, there is an index.html file that shows a simple version of your profile. It contains the data for your profile, wall, photos, videos, friends content, notes, events, and messages that was there before you started the download.

Below is a video demo of how to go about downloading your information from Facebook:

justin bieber 315x235 A Different Justin Bieber Gets Kicked Off Facebook
Justin Bieber was kicked off Facebook, but it isn’t the pop-star that you are thinking of — it was a Florida resident that coincidentally has the same name. A Facebook employee thought he was using a fake name in his profile and disabled the account. Getting kicked off Facebook isn’t the only problem with having the same name as the pop star. “Artists saying, ‘I am going to be working with you this weekend.’ I say, ‘no, you’re not, you don’t want to sing with me,’” stated Bieber in an interview with First Coast News. Bieber changed his phone number and put it in his wife’s name. The number was still put on a fan website. [Gizmodo]

facebook places Facebook “Places” An Update in Their iPhone AppLate Wednesday evening, Facebook added a location check-in feature to their hugely popular iPhone app. “Places” is the official title, and the social media kingpin is expected to be the eventual champion of such (GPS) location based utilities.

Similar applications allow you to publicly announce your whereabouts, with Gowalla and Foursquare among the most popular. At least they were.

The Washington Post is among the seemingly endless sources that report once a user “Checks In”, their location is broadcasted on both their personal and public feed. Security adjustments can be made within your profile to change just how known your want your movements to be.

This seems certain to be a dagger to Foursquare and company, but Facebook’s approach doesn’t have the add-ons that other apps have. In Foursquare, you’re awarded various badges and even mayorships based on the frequency and uniqueness of your visits.

Places seems to simply announce your position to your friends, and shows your profile picture on a GPS map. Facebook allows you to ‘tag’ those you’re with (like with their photos) so others can follow where they are as well, though they need to authorize you to do such beforehand.

On the surface it all seems like an inevitability merely coming to fruition. My opinion is that this addition to the application spells trouble, and not the type related to the new-found competition of existing services. From my experience, many people are “friends” with individuals they barely know or have just met. For instance someone meets you at a party, and after talking for 10 minutes asks “Are you on Facebook“? And just like you’re mutually privy to each others profiles.

So will this kill Foursquare type apps? Or will the competition from the 500 million potential participants on Facebook just make them step their game up? Will you be participating or do you plan to keep your Places to yourself? We at iDB would love your opinion in the comment box on this important addition to the world’s largest social network.
