Apple Stock Apple Posts Record First Quarter Results, Sells 16.24 Million iPhones

Hot off the news of Steve Job’s 2nd medical leave in as many years, Apple has released its first quarter results, and unsurprisingly, the numbers are quite gaudy.

“We had a phenomenal holiday quarter with record Mac, iPhone and iPad sales,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We are firing on all cylinders and we’ve got some exciting things in the pipeline for this year including iPhone 4 on Verizon which customers can’t wait to get their hands on.”

At 16.24 million sold, the iPhone’s numbers represent an 86% growth over the same period last year. The numbers for Apple’s other products, were just as impressive…

Apple sold 19.45 million iPods, 7.33 million iPads, and 4.13 million Macs, during the same quarter.

“We couldn’t be happier with the performance of our business, generating $9.8 billion in cash flow from operations during the December quarter,” said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO. “Looking ahead to the second fiscal quarter of 2011, we expect revenue of about $22 billion and we expect diluted earnings per share of about $4.90.”

Again, this is good news for a company who is losing their CEO and visionary for the 2nd time in two years, as their stock slightly reflected the somber news that broke on Monday.

By late afternoon today, the stock has all but rebounded in after hours trading sessions; a point owed to the well-timed planning of Apple’s quarterly earnings call.

Do you think Apple maintain this momentum without Steve Jobs at the helm?

ziptouchgo 280x125 JoyFactory’s Zip Touch n Go does magnetic chargingWe have covered devices that can charge other mobile devices, such as the Powermat which go without wires or the Belkin Valet, which has wired connectors.

JoyFactory’s Zip Touch-n-Go has a little of both. It has the wired connectors for individual devices, but then these lock magnetically to the big palette that you see here.

It doesn’t look like this particular device is available as yet, but I’m sure it won’t be long before something as fresh as this hits the market.

I wonder how much it will cost when it does come out. I don’t know if you did, but you should have had it on display at CES. Hopefully you will have it out by Christmas.

01 18 11applfinan Apple turns in record Q1: $6b profit on $26.7b revenue, 16.2m iPhones sold

Apple’s announcement of Steve Jobs’ medical leave just one day before releasing its Q1 financial results struck us as well-planned yesterday, and here we are: if Cupertino’s record $6 billion profit on a record $26.7 billion in revenue isn’t enough to turn that frown — and stock slide — upside down, well, nothing else will. iPhone 4 sales were predictably strong through the holidays, clocking in at a record 16.2m units, or up 86 percent from last year, while Mac sales went up 23 percent to a record 4.13m and iPod sales were stronger than expected at 19.45m, a seven percent decline. As for the iPad, Apple’s tablet had its second straight dominant quarter, with record sales of 7.33 million — some 3 million more than the Mac. Apple’s financial call with new acting CEO Tim Cook and CFO Peter Oppenheimer is scheduled to start at 5PM EST — check after the break for our usual liveblog while you’re listening live on Apple’s site.
